There's more to trans allyship than simply not having anything against trans people.

I (re)post things here that are important for allies be aware of, such as trans 101 stuff, news, history, and resources for more info.

Trans 101

This thread lists some of my top recommendations for learning about trans.

I will periodocally be adding more to this list. 🧵

Speaking as a trans woman, I feel like we’re asked, more than any other group of people, to accept that our rights and identity and basic existence have two valid sides, and people can disagree in good faith about whether we’re delusional perverts.

It’s exhausting.

A lot of transphobic whataboutism is just straight up trying to make being a bigot sound like a legit position asked in good faith.

Nope, same old horseshit.

Getting trans info from cis people's perspectives makes as much sense as learning about black issues from a panel of white people who "know a black person".

You elevate and platform a minority community's own voices. You don't speak over them or decide for them.
Here we go again.

Puberty blockers: why politicians overriding doctors sets a dangerous precedent
The government’s ban on puberty blockers undermines clinical expertise and targets trans youth with a policy that lacks evidence, consistency and fairness.

If you're not trans, please take a couple of minutes to skim through the linked blog post.

It's an overview of (some of) the questions trans kids and their parents will have to through, just to participate in the NHS puberty blocker trial.

I won't make any further comment here.

Excellent 🧵
The only truly irreversible thing a trans child is likely to do is take their own life. "What if they do something irreversible?" actually means "theyre not allowed to make a decision!"

You cant undo or reverse any decision you make, you can simply change your mind later and handle the consequences

I first heard the term Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria a few years after my kid transitioned. It is just a way dismiss a kid.

Parents may feel a little blindsided because the kids spend a lot of time thinking about it before coming out. Then they want transition ASAP. It doesn’t mean it’s not real.

It is fucking depressing how many people are outraged at the attacks on the bbc but when it comes to trans "issues", it's "fair do's, you're right about that one". Especially since the beeb news section has been unrelentingly anti-trans for years
Or, translated:

“We didn’t punch down on or vilify trans people sufficiently for the Telegraph’s liking.”

How many years away are we from having a “both sides” factor when discussing gay people, I wonder?

Every "pro-trans" step the catholic church hierarchy takes is symbolic.

Meanwhile, where they actually have power and control their policies remain relentlessly transphobic.
U.S. catholic bishops criticizing Trump's crackdowns obscured that at the same conference they tried to make sure way more trans people die due to a lack of life-saving medical care.

Catholic hospitals see 1 in 7 patients. In some areas they're the only medical system:
