Why not name the people who are determined to cut veterans services?

Oh, it's much easier to start a new party. But if you want to win elections, not so much.
In order to move politics to the left, you're going to need pretty much everybody who currently votes for Dems to vote for you. It's easier to get Democratic voters if you're a Democrat.

Did you ask Durbin why anybody should care whether there's a Senate vote on this given that it won't make any actual difference in the real world? Nobody's healthcare costs will go down because of a meaningless procedural vote.

Yeah, hard to see what Kuttner got wrong here. Seems like he was right on the money.

I think Marshall knows how insurance works. He also knows most Americans don't understand how it works and that the mainstream media will never explain it.
He's just lying, since there's no longer any cost to lying.

I don't even think any promises were made wrt the House. Wouldn't surprise me if the Republican message ends up being "Sure, we'll bring it up for a vote in the Senate. As soon as the House sends us something to vote on." Which of course will never happen.

He probably does understand. He just knows most Americans don't understand, and the media will go out of their way not to explain why he's wrong.

I did focus on asking her to convince Durbin not to vote for it.

Only other option is that he's too weak a leader to stop them. There's no third option. Schumer has to go.

Do you support Schumer remaining as leader?

That only happens if we get a bunch of Mamdanis to run. But I'm not sure there are a whole lot of Mamdanis out there. I hope there are!

Is he right about that? Trump won last year. If you depress the base enough, they don't show up.

I get that, but that means John Kerry was in the senate for 20 years without being a "senior Senator" while Fetterman is a "senior Senator" after only 2. It would be a pretty meaningless term in this context. But that doesn't mean it's necessarily wrong.

Also not sure why the House has to vote on anything. That's not part of the deal. Not even sure how it could be part of the deal.

Hard for me to imagine Republicans making the ACA better. Easy to imagine that they'll come up with some "fix" that will actually hollow it out.

How do you think it will play out? Seems like either Rs renege on voting or just kill it in a vote, and that's that. You think Rs send it to Trump's desk to veto?

Yep, and now the Overton Window has shifted so all future Republicans can exploit the same leverage

Republicans will just filibuster it. They'll let their ~10 most vulnerable senators vote for it, but the rest will hold it back. It'll never get to Trump's desk.

He was administering an enlistment oath or some such. The booing was massive, but the "state your name" part isn't an issue

Yeah, let's focus on the massive booing and his grimacing at hearing the boos
