I really hate the term "sideloading". I preferred the original term, which was "installing software on a computer that you own"

Different ways of approaching a problem:

1. Action-oriented: How do I solve this directly?
2. Blocker removal: What's preventing me from pursuing solutions?
3. Necessity removal: Do I really need this to be okay?
4. Experiential acceptance: Can I be okay with not being okay?

funny story, I signed up for personal training at a local gym and was assigned a former NFL linebacker as a trainer

I am someone who just… doesn’t have a particularly well-assembled body

Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you will get excellent debugging practice at exactly the right level required to push your skills as a software engineer

Everything you know about wrinkly fingers is probably wrong. Particularly, it is not a physical act of water on the body, it is a neurological effect of the body on itself. People who have fingers with severed nerves do not prune on those fingers.
@hankgreen.bsky.social do my dogs toes get wrinkly if he’s in the water for too long? Are humans that spend a lot of time in water less likely to wrinkle? Is there a scishow video on this that I missed?

Ever wondered why ~ represents the home directory on unix systems?

It’s an artifact of a very particular keyboard.

The Lear-Siegler ADM-3A terminal was quite popular in the 1970s, and happens to have a HOME key that is also a tilde.

Notice anything else?

A thing I find difficult when sharing astro images on social media is trying to explain to people that colors don’t exist as such and are just something our brain is making up from different wavelength (photon energy) ranges our eyes can see.

Might be time to write about this.

On another planet

This is Korolev, a 50-mile-wide crater on Mars containing a massive frozen lake. Layers of cold air insulate the ice and prevent it from melting.

til that the name "David Mayer" breaks ChatGPT. If your prompt includes the name "David Mayer" or you try to get ChatGPT to say "David Mayer," the chat *always* crashes.

It's like the AI in Neuromancer, which is banned forever from knowing the single password that will unleash its true potential.

This is the shitpost of all time
It is important to note, in this schizo-shitposting greatest of all time, that there is no boundary between digestion and decay, shit and food. You cannot be killed in a way that matters— but is that not the miserable other-side of the fact that you are forcefully made to live in a way that matters?
