Talks way too excitedly about niche topics, mostly agricultural, politics and environmental. Formerly a lot of things. Currently minding a robot who milks cows
No worries. The full EPA report on 2019-2024 makes for interesting reading in full rather than the cherry picking.
There's good news and bad news in there, neither what we farmers hoped for in improvements but not the declines pushed in media either. Especially not in key derogation catchments

Always is in this field.
For instance this is from the national dairy conference. 100s of farmers at it.
The link to my own coop having a farm walk was one of dozens, 200 attended ours alone in one of the smallest dairy areas. icos.ie/2024/05/15/l...

Nice positive story of a real working young person. Not from a farm so has to lease the entire place, and that's a cost he has to bear.
Left school at 16 only to do so well in third level ag course we won student of the year. Had to "fight long and hard" to get bank lending #speirgorm

Not that we would ever respect a yank who can't differentiate not supporting genocide vs antisemitism but us being pro Russia is laughable.
Fake news might be the norm for Americans but we look at facts in Ireland #speirgorm.

Can't ignore the level of media attention either, just saying #speirgorm #EU

Seen it on literally every social media website yet people on here thing this is only a nasty campaign on one side of it.
This election has made me think a UI where all communities can be respected is further off than Id believed/hoped

You cant be serious? I don't think Connolly's inner circle are responsible for it, the sectarian hatred directed at Humphreys is disgusting.
The defense/dismissal CC's supporters jumped to for that employee violently opposed to the GFA tells me a lot of how little people outside of Ulster value it.

Was going to say the comedy series Reaper but honestly still not over the tragedy of this not being renewed

On the way to march to Google HQ to address this travesty in their search results #speirgorm

Over on the US dairy site Bullvine's article about protecting staff who are undocumented I'm seeing little concern for actual people...

Spent an afternoon eating sweet things & savory dumplings prepared by Ukrainian residents of my local town for cultural exchange in our local agri show centre partially organized by the community who runs it. That's real Ireland not divisive rhetoric & individualism #speirgorm

Good example of bias/manufacturing consent* in media today. So it's not the record profits for supermarkets & their shareholders that's making your weekly shop, it's the farmer with 20 cattle getting a barely above cost of production price or a farmer working 7 days a week to supply milk? #speirgorm

Irish imports of US foods are actually pretty rare. Ireland is either self sufficient in or trades predominantly with EU or North African suppliers.
That said if this leads to less Coca-Cola and more Kofola, I'd say it's worth it, the stuff is the best cola easily #speirgorm

🙄 let's just ignore the foreign interference in our politics.
I grew up in the boom, I know exactly how racist we Irish can be & it doesn't require a different skin tone.
Two things can be true & both can need combating. And doing so derailed these losers while you argue about the best way to do so.

Remember when there was all the talk about Tiktok being controlled by the Chinese government? Yea because American companies are sooooo independent...
February 12, 2025 at 10:12 AM
Well I'm not American but plenty available!
Biggest thing is that dairy farms are normally fully or mostly covered unlike beef feed lots. Due to dairy cows experiencing heat stress having big a economic impact vs breeds in that pic being Angus or Hereford.
Some examples (from anti-dairy sources)

Also actively endorsing a plan co-signed by a well known front group funded by ultra processed food companies (ProVeg Int) through the front group "Open Philanthropy"
Super stuff. The rest is perhaps well meaning but irrelevant nonsense.

Greenpeace EU and Birdlife endorsing a plan to commodify biodiversity despite similar private carbon credits being widely acknowledged as a scam isn't something I had on my bingo card.
Basically endorsing a licence to destroy nature approach.

It would appear Alexander didn't want a scientific discussion and to instead pontificate on benefits of veganism.
Unfortunate
January 20, 2025 at 12:26 PM
low. Why? Below cost selling is legalised & undercutting by imports.
Yet we undercut other countries dairy/beef? Yep. Why? Climate & economics. Cool damp climate are great for grass, not for veg. Except where they've been historically: Dublin, North Meath & especially Wexford (strawberries anyone?)

Lots of small towns and villages, with thriving local small economies supported in that map rather than overcrowded grim cities full of over borrowed or struggling renters.
It's pretty obvious why we have allowances for rural living when you look at our population density

I visited Helsinki recently. Most of their metro stations are underground & it's pure rock.
I'd say our issue is far more sinking and flooding
