If you believe in reincarnation and that life begins at conception: I could be Elvis.
Human progress is based on intercity trade and expanded production capability. US cities died last century. Corporate ownership and taxes paying for infrastructure support the existing system that can only collapse. There is no way to vote out of this predicament. Find joy where you can. #JaneJacobs

If you don't own at least 13 different sizes/types/brands of plastic container, you have failed as a suburban American consumer and you must go out to your nearest Big Box immediately for penance. If yours all have matching lids you must buy twice as many immediately.

The stream near my house is so thoroughly covered with leaves it looks like a nice path to walk while reciting some Robert Frost.

I enjoy these pleasant surprises in used books: artifacts of previous use. 35 years ago, Steve in Edmonton, Alberta, bought this and 3 other books. The book was 9 years old at the time. It cost $5 Canadian. That was $7.36 in modern US dollars. I paid $14.88, so it has doubled in value, sort of.

Mutual Aid by Dean Spade is great even if you aren't currently looking to do anything radical. It is good for just dealing with people.

Reading about the attacks on midwifery in the 16th century really makes the attack on abortion and birth control today seem awkwardly medieval. We had hundreds of years of progress, and now we're backsliding into the newest dark age.

It's a paint-by-number of THE pointillist painting... But, no, they don't have you paint it that way. Because art is for you the consumer, not the artist. Because capitalism.

It was difficult to read this with a straight face to my 9-year-old. It's from The Emerald City of Oz, Frank Baum, 1910.

I was not prepared for the side-by-side of my new driver's license photo with my old one. Old one? I am the old one, clearly. Where did all of that whiteness come from?

I had an eye-catching sign made so that people would stop trying to enter my office while I am in a meeting, because the closed door wasn't working.
Now, co-worker opens the door while I am in a meeting to ask "What is that sign for?"
For you, Sean. The sign was for you. Guess it didn't work.

My wife got me birthday tickets to this play where there's a total asshole named Dave Moss. My name is Dave Moss. I'm not such an asshole. But I am thrilled to see Bob Odenkirk and 1/3rd of Spinal Tap (and Doug Forcett, and Mr. Green), Michael McKean. Kieran Culkin & Bill Burr are not bad as well.

Is that a fire escape I'm the upper right corner that just juts out far away from the building? Is it connected to the other building, or just out on its own?

"Most notably, rulers acted to restore the status quo ante of widespread land tenure by freeing debt bondsmen and annulling the barley-debt overhang, although leaving intact most commercial debts, urban real estate and commercial gardens or orchards."

I know that AI is not what they advertise... But I really thought that knowing what date it is would be pretty fundamental to the programming. It thinks today is yesterday.

Chuck Marohn of @strongtowns.org talking about the end of the post-war era as we transition to something else... with a chance to change it from the bottom up as the top-down government & corporate cabal is spinning out of control.

NJ Transportation Commissioner Fran O'Connor recently walked with kids to school to see their daily car-dominated reality. He uses the word 'crash' not 'accident'. Sounds like the Target Zero Commission is starting right. Will the next governor appoint a commissioner who has the right perspective?
