Cost is the biggest downside. Cost of services, cost of meds (even OTC—ibuprofen is CHF 10 for 10 doses and not insured). Overall service is pretty good but, like everywhere, there’s a growing problem with not enough providers.

There’s several models for insurance from HMO-style, to telmed authorization, to ‘go see whatever doctor you want whenever’ depending on what you want to pay to have greater choice (I have to see my ‘house doctor’ for specialist referrals…but she’s an endocrinologist, so the specialist I need most)

I should mention—mandatory insurance here is not for profit (supplemental policies can make a profit). So health spending is 11.8% of GDP vice the US’s 17.6%. So we’ve got that going for us at least….
