Artist in my own right and daughter of Ki Longfellow, author of the Secret Magdalene
I did a ginormous painting on paper of Kali Ma. These are some of the studies. I haven’t seen the actual painting in years. I keep it rolled up in a tube. It’s horrifically fragile. The finished version is life size with me as the model for all parts. Anyway, enjoy. #kalima #sydneylongfellow #artsky

My completed series of portraits of #womenartists - in this case all painters I admire. My guidelines excluded living artists and artists who lived before the advent of photography. I’m considering working on another series for women writers. What do you think? #sydneylongfellow

A blast from my past. This is Bingle Bird, a painting in oils that I did when I was in residency at the #vermontstudiocenter while I was working on my Masters degree. The painting currently resides with my son. #artsky

The third in my series on #womenartists is of #marycassatt and captures her forceful personality. #artsky #arthistory

The latest in my series of portraits of women painters is Alice Neel. I had never heard of her until my graduation show at Smith College when someone compared me to her. She was an amazing portraitist and activist. If you are unfamiliar with her work, you should check it out.

Look what I found? Just a few years before I re-embraced my art practice I was fumbling to begin again. But I rather like this humble painting. #blueskyart #art #beginnings

Just completed the second in my series on #womenartists - this formidable woman is Mary Cassatt. While she most often painted the domestic lives of women, she maintained a fierce independence so that she could succeed as a painter in a male dominated society. #blueskyart #artists . #marycassatt

This was the only time I was remotely happy with a painting of my mom, Ki Longfellow, that I did from a live sitting. For a woman capable of the wisdom she revealed in writing The Secret Magdalene, she sure could be ornery! #authors #artists

My portrait of painter Tamara de Lempicka. First in a series on women artists that I plan. Who would you include? #womenartists #blueskyart #art

Yesterday I went to see Tamara de Lempicke at the De Young. Fantastic show. Amazing artist with a colorful life and the glamour of a movie star from the thirties and forties. This little unfinished sketch of her lover, Ira Perrot, caught my eye. Those eyes!
