Today, Lansdowne 2.0 was passed with a 15 - 10 vote at Council. This is going to be an important issue in 2026, and I hope you'll stay engaged with Council in the coming months.

Proposed changes from the Ontario government would drastically reduce protection for tenants.

This is appalling and would put some folks in serious danger in this era of very low vacancy, skyrocketing rental rates, and rent decontrol.

Nearly 40% of Ottawa residents are renters.

On Sunday afternoon, 3-7 at Beyond the Pale at City Centre, I'll be doing the last of my stops on my listening tour. Hope to see many of you there for your chance to talk to me about building a city that works.

This morning, Mayor Sutcliffe held a press conference outlining the modified Lansdowne 2.0 recommendations before city councillors or the public had access to them. That’s unacceptable. Transparency and respect for Council should come before media rollouts.

Across Ottawa, from fairs and markets to townhalls and meetings, I’ve been hearing the same thing: people are frustrated and want a new direction for our city. We need a city that works, with reliable transit, strong services, repaired roads and community centres.

Great to see some of my colleagues this weekend as they do the work of engaging, supporting and celebrating the residents of their wards. I'm proud to work with people like Tim Tierney, Clarke Kelly, Ariel Troster, David Brown and Marty Carr who are on the ground each day. I see and thank you.

I'm overjoyed to say that the City is now consulting on re-naming the field house at Van Lang as the Paul Dewar Field House. I thank community members and Paul's wife Julia Sneyd for their patience and leadership. View the consultation details here: ottawa.ca/en/city-hall...

At some point, leaders need to lead by looking forward. The world isn't the same as it used to be. Instead of trying to put the genie back in the bottle, we can leverage opportunities that come with a decentralized city: stronger local economies, improved quality of life, cleaner air, safer streets.
I want to express my profound disappointment today that the City has ordered its workers back into the office five days a week. It is a short-sighted decision that serves no one well in either the short or long term. (1/6)

I’m with Jeff. If we haven’t made the proper investments to ensure fast and frequent transit, this will just add more cars to the road and increase congestion in Centretown.

Also: hybrid work arrangements are good for parents and caregivers—often women. Trust people to work where they do it best.

Tonight Coun. @arieltroster.com and I are co-hosting an early budget consultation. I've written up some thoughts on our budget ahead of that that I'd invite residents to read here: kitchissippiward.ca/2025/06/26/b...
