Got to hang out with legendary herp and primate researcher Russ Mittermeier. Showed him around one of my mud turtle sites and got the target species plus a couple more. He gifted me a few books and even signed his Lemurs of Madagascar book for me!

The status can potentially give conservation officials across the species range ammunition to provide protections, and overall provides an update of the species current status, which is unfortunately threatened by things like habitat destruction and climate change, along with the illegal pet trade.

I’m so thankful for getting to work with her for the past almost 6 years. She introduced numerous students to their first turtle experiences, and was a joy to encounter every time we found her.

Kind of a sad #dailyturtle update… got the report from one of collaborators that the first box turtle ever marked in our first study in 2019 has passed on. ID#1- “Priscilla” was such a beautiful turtle and contributed data already to two published studies with two more on the way.

A little behind on #dailyturtle 🐢🐢🐢🐢. This is a weird observation of a likely escaped/dumped nonnative Ouachita Map Turtle In South Florida. We captured this individual as part of a population. Assessment in an urban pond. It was rehomed with a Florida based educator!
