So. Eight Sleep's app went down because of the recent AWS outage and users couldn't set their bed alarm, control mattress temperature, or change positions. (I must confess I laughed at the subreddit thread - to quote: "Girlfriend’s side of the bed set itself to 110f and won’t turn down. Nightmare.")

But as we tear down the walls of code and command lines, we have to avoid building new ones: paywalls, subscriptions and lock-ins. The freedom to create must be accompanied by the freedom to own what you've made.
