My very first cat loved raw pumpkin. He'd scour the can whenever I made pie or pumpkin bread. (TBH, he'd eat about anything. More like a dog that way.)

Sorry about your cat and the upcoming appointment. We had to do that earlier this month. 💔 Sucks.

It's never too early for Christmas biscuits. This is known.

THIS. ffs. I do the best I can with my choices, and sometimes I choose the less-shitty of shitty options b/c that's what's available. I do not need to hear someone excoriate me for it, and I'm certainly not yelling at anyone else for what they decide.

Count me in that handful. Really enjoyed that book.

We lost our 10 year old cat, Skugga, Monday to cancer 6 months after diagnosis. He had a fantastic summer murdering things on his walks (leashed. He was a murderboss). He got a last day in the sun. And there is a hole in this household exactly his shape.

Reread Watership Down (for the umpteenth time, but not for at least 20 years) and still loved it.

Tales from Watership Down, which was nice for completion, but also made me wish for a compilation of only El-ahrairah stories.

John Scalzi's When the Moon Hits Your Eye. Biting (ha) commentary on contemporary culture, even with the most improbable set-up. I went in expecting to giggle, and ended up nodding and wincing. In a good way.

1. Rajma, from a NYT Tejal Rao recipe, modified with paneer b/c why wouldn't you.
2. Pumpkin bread, my recipe, b/c it's not too sweet & tastes like autumn, which used to mean cool weather inbound, hurray.
3. Spouse's split pea soup, yellow peas, pancetta or bacon, not ham.

One of my favorite students was from Honolulu. I had her for two quarters, and she always brought these to me after breaks. Husband has nut allergies, so the macadamia shortbreads are all mine.

Huzzah! I am like this with Murdercat’s other litterbox deposits since his cancer diagnosis. The relief felt for a normal cat poop cannot be overstated.

I just saw this--so, so sorry.

Congrats! That’s wonderful!

I read and loved The Tainted Cup and A Drop of Corruption by Robert Jackson Bennet--murder mysteries *like* Sherlock Holmes but not (to me, anyway) a direct reskinning, in a fantasy/magico-industrial world.. The world building is solid, there are kaiju! -- and I enjoyed the characters.
