>> now, the battlefield where to prevail in the AI #LLM landscape is that of economics research aimed at justifying the value of the technology and its business model. So, competition moves to the think-tank space. The key problem with that is that these are #private research centres >>

But... is it? The author of the piece is a well-known ideological conservative that has all the interest in casting the bleaker of shadows. The current President has daily meaningless rants maybe we focus on that. The real problem to me seems the Axel Springer right turn imposed to Politico

... So, @ec.europa.eu let's not fall for this, and let's build a #European #AI that is #plural and not necessarily based on the 'the-bigger-the-better' mantra!

There is loads of economic research on AI that does not need the AGI trope to say something interesting, eg on industrial and competition policy of AI. And it is also painful to see for all the scholars of technological change, especially when the industrial revolution is brought into the narrative!

Complexity is eliminated (as diversity is in proximate political views), economic incentives and forces are simplified. I am a bit shocked that this is now given airtime by @cepr.org seminar series on the #economics of #AI, which is a top institution promoting serious scientific work >>

This back-of-the-envelope way of thinking is very typical of longtermists, and to me seems too similar to the outcome of what average students in econ-101 would do to solve a take-home assignment and then abandon the course without studying the rest of key concepts. >>
