Addiction affects everybody. It has a huge impact on families. Family & friends can access support even if their loved one is not in treatment. Family support can empower them to recover their own life & can help their loved one. For support see Scottish Families www.sfad.org.uk

Asking for help is not a sign of weakness, In fact, asking for help takes strength, courage and humility to open up to others. There is also power in numbers and you are more likely to be successful in your recovery from addiction when you have support from others ❤️

You don't just treat addiction! You have to also treat undiagnosed ADHD, PTSD, depression, trauma, poverty, and break generational cycles.
A lot of time addiction is the result of someone's best attempt at coping with underlying issues that were never dealt with in the first place!

Our latest paper now available in HIV Medicine @bhiva.bsky.social examined mortality among people who inject drugs living with HIV in Scotland over a 20-year period and found increases over time, driven by a rise in drug-related deaths. OAT [again] was protective.

🚨Always carry 2 Naloxone kits 🚨This weekend I met some lovely clinicians from London 🚑 who responded to an overdose I intervened at. They really wished 🏴 had the #TakeHomeNaloxone programme like 🏴 One person helped and I still had a kit to carry around 👌
