I used to rant about service & UX design leadership stuff & Dublin City, now it’s mostly cycling & Dun Laoghaire (and darned pavement parking!) with 3 little kids.
Anyone know if there’s secure bike parking in Dundrum shopping centre?

Would rather cycle than drive but always scared my electric bike will get robbed! @dlrcycling.bsky.social you might know? Or @oisinoconnor.bsky.social thanks!

I’ve spent this last week looking after my mum with dementia, with help from 4 wonderful home care staff. But the system they work in is so messed up. They don’t get paid travel time, or even given time to travel - one jogged a 25 walk in 10 mins to reach us.

Not all that glitters is gold??
I think the fact that we use a sparkle as the icon for AI says a lot ✨

Taking up an ecar space and not charging their car.

I was there when the Garda returned, not an emergency situation at all, strolling around so he was.

@garda.ie please do better.

Suggestions on first bikes for a 4 & 5 year old?

Or good Dublin based shops to try some out and get expert, friendly, patient advice?

If your green bike’s back wheel/mudguard got damaged yesterday at Sandycove beach that mini is the car that did it. Ignored my request to leave you a note. Sorry I couldn’t do more, 3 tiny kids to contain and get into our own bike amidst the chaos. Repost please @dlrcycling.bsky.social

Putting something up on a Facebook freecycle page and a staunch anti-cyclist wanting it, and there not being a first-come first-served policy. 😃

Wish I could have specified the item was collected by bike just to rub it in. But it was a bed.

Anyone recommend good free/cheap Figma online tutorials?

Don’t need to become an expert, just able to jump into someone else’s files, not mess them up tragically, make simple edits to play with ideas, add connects etc?

Why didn’t anyone warn me how weird it feels to go from 6 months cycling a big front loader cargo bike back to a regular bike?

So light and flimsy. Every pothole a terrifying gulf for my little wheel. The tight corners. Felt like I was about to die my entire ride.

Ireland is now at 84.91% of it's threshold to count as one of the seven #EU countries to get this initiave to ban LGBT conversion "therapy" which means we need 1,383
more signatures here.....#Spéirgorm
I have signed this #EU initiative to propose a ban on #LGBTQ+ conversion "therapy" which every EU citizen above the age of 16 should be able to sign.

#Ireland needs maybe 5,000 more signatures to reach the threshold #Spéirghorm #Spéirgorm

I’d like to turn an idea I’ve had into an app. I can do all the design/research myself but know nothing about the dev side. Where can I start to learn?

Would rather learn myself since I’m so rarely hands on making things in my actual job these days.

Mostly making it because I want it myself.

Needed a quick starting point for a day itinerary in Osaka so tried ChatGPT with really specific criteria - record store, retro video game shop, pancakes, gyoza and our family ages etc.

3 of the 7 places suggested either didn’t exist or had closed down. 2 others were completely unsuitable. 🫣

Fire trucks in Japan are smaller than SUVs in Ireland.

I love how potential moments of friction in public services are proactively minimised in Japan helping everything run more efficiently and keep things smooth for all users.

This at a local bus stop often used by tourists.

In Tokyo people are allowed cycle on the paths. Pedestrians don’t seem to stick strictly to one side but no one seems annoyed with each other. They calmly go around. Definitely enabled by the wide paths but still pretty miraculous to see the calm.

Just spent the day with 3 kids at Disney & it mostly felt like it’s a place that tries very hard to distract everyone from realising there simply isn’t enough stuff to do so they don’t try do stuff. Attractions were great but painful to get to/on. Am I just a Disney grinch?

The almost free winter lights merrion square keep getting better each year, mostly because they’re focusing on making it interactive. The sheer joy of this.

Just saw the Gardaí in Dun Laoghaire telling someone who was begging to go into the city centre instead. WTF??
