This #ValentinesDay, discover a love token from the past, recorded by the Sussex Finds Liaison Team. From the 15th-17th centuries, lovers exchanged posy rings - gold or silver bands engraved with romantic messages. This 17th C ring, found near Chichester reads: "Hurt not ye ❤️ hoos joy thou art."

#OnThisDay 200 years ago, Gideon Mantell’s paper introduced Iguanodon as the first identified herbivorous dinosaur, recognised from its teeth! His discovery began in 1822 when he & his wife Mary-Ann found large fossilised teeth in #WestSussex

Almost 100 years ago to this day, a devastating fire engulfed the Tudor wing of Michelham Priory near #Hailsham. Discovered by the chef, Mr. Overton, it likely started from a beam catching fire in the dining room chimney.
