If anything, I'm using em dashes MORE now. GenAI can't have them.

Thinking today of a younger me who found, in a moment of serendipity, a young woman's archived letters that sparked my entire research trajectory. 2019 Me would be delighted. #acwrimoments

Spent 1.5 hours this morning letting myself follow research trails and transcribe a few recipes. Best way to spend a morning, honestly. #acwrimoments

That's why her hair's so big. It's full of rum.

(Rhum Agricole made from sugarcane.)

Another morning writing with @sofiawithaphd.bsky.social that was very productive, if short. Early morning continues to work for my scattered brain. Write before our brains say no! #acwrimoments

One difficult thing about writing about receipt books is that there are so many interesting recipes I wish I could try. What if that weird recipe DOES help my migraines? The recipe was recorded and used for a reason, after all.

I draw the line at using rabbit urine, though. #acwrimoments

The palpable relief of reading a syntactically awkward student paper nevertheless brimming with ideas they’re trying on after having to consume the stale cardboard generalities of a Chat GPT essay.

On Fridays, we let our brains follow their bliss. I accidentally-on-purpose started a new side project this morning. #acwrimoments

Getting up super early in the morning to write before the kids wake up isn't my favorite -- I'm very tired -- but the sense of accomplishment I feel from writing every day is worth it. #acwrimoments

Over a week after the end of the semester, three students made me a digital card together and sent it today. ❤️

A few days ago, a student (that I had for three consecutive semesters!) sent me her review of Sunrise on the Reaping, which she read purely for enjoyment.

I love teaching.

I'm looking through a 17th-century commonplace book of medicinal recipes and this woman gives a recipe for "a vomit to cleer yr body, a fine gentle thing."

MA'AM.

A student just told me she ordered the rest of the Twilight series books (after we read the first one in class) and "started a little library" with her cousin and I couldn't be more delighted. Imagine the journey she's begun.

One of my students says she's "10 toes down behind my girl, Moll Flanders."

She supports women's rights, but also women's wrongs.

There's always one quiet class each semester. Pulling out all my tricks to get them talking. Today's strategy involves no talking at all: silent discussion!

Starting a quick, fluffy read as a reward for (1) organizing a math-themed family costume (number line), (2) making dinner before taking the family to math-o-ween, and (3) submitting another job application. I deserve a treat.

I taught the first 4 chapters of Twilight today because I'm a very serious goose.

The students are LOVING being experts on vampires after reading stories/novels/films all semester. And now I hand them Twilight to see what happens? *chef's kiss*
