Book recommendation: “Ready for My Close Up” by David Lubin, a well-researched history of Billy Wilder’s dark classic, #SunsetBoulevard. I’ve read many accounts of this film, but learned many new facts from this latest tome.

Lovely new exhibit of Impressionist work at the #LegionofHonor – “Manet and Morisot.” My favorites are Berthe Morisot’s “Young Woman in Ball Gown” and Edouard Manet’s “At the Milliner's.”

Season 5 of #OnlyMurdersInTheBuilding promises to be the best—Tea Leoni and Bobby Cannavale are terrific additions. And one of the most hysterical sight gags is Oliver Putnam (the irrepressible Martin Short) napping with Sarah Palin’s bio, Going Rogue, in his lap. Laugh out loud funny!

Best film this summer (for me, anyway) is #Highest2Lowest, #SpikeLee’s inspired reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 classic crime thriller, #HightoLow. Wonderful cast, gorgeous set design, and many Spike Lee Easter eggs. I especially loved the Kamala poster in the son’s bedroom—a nice touch.

Best film this summer (for me, anyway) is #Highest2Lowest, #SpikeLee’s inspired reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 classic crime thriller, #HightoLow. Wonderful cast, gorgeous set design, and many Spike Lee Easter eggs. I especially loved the Kamala poster in the son’s bedroom—a nice touch.
The late San Francisco artist #RuthAsawa was quite prolific—her wide range of artworks included her iconic hanging metal sculptures, printmaking, watercolors and large public sculptures, notably fountains. Showcased now at #SFMOMA. Asawa, a working mother of six children, could do it all.

#InspirationPoint in the #Presidio, for years one of the last free parking lots in #SanFrancisco, used by dog walkers, (non-profit) youth camps and other locals, will now charge for parking. Shame on you #PresidioTrust.

With so much news focus on illegal immigrant deportation, be sure to watch the 2011 film, #ABetterLife, which focuses on immigrant families who are hardworking, not criminals. Nominated for a Best Actor Oscar, it stars #DemiánBichir in a moving performance. Streaming on Freevee and Tubi.

#AppleTV’s #TheStudio is a fun inside-Hollywood comedy, but sorry, #SethRogen is badly miscast as a studio exec—too needy, bumbling, celebrity worshipping. His character is simply not believable for a guy who has spent his entire career at a major film studio.
