"Ever heard of Vivien Thomas? He was a Black surgical technician who, despite having no formal medical degree, helped develop the first life-saving surgery for "blue baby syndrome" (Tetralogy of Fallot), a serious congenital heart defect.
My daughter was able to grow up because of him.
