My latest book Unhead Voices is dedicated to six friends who read avidly. One of them, a talented artist, has made me this lovely coaster as a thank you. I'm delighted with it.

Are you Christmas shopping today? Maybe your family and friends would like to read more about some of the minor characters in some of their favourite works of literature or adaptations of them? Amazon, Waterstones etc etc.

I've just submitted my new book to PLR so that I get a royalty if it's borrowed from libaries (vg scheme). It's my FIFTY NINTH title there. Lots of re-issues of text books etc included but I pride myself that no one could call me idle!

If you like my book and if you review on Amazon (please, please please do it!) don't hint you know me - if you do. Apparently the site will reject reviews if there's any suggestion that reviewer and writer are acquainted.

Reader just told me she liked my story "Aaron" and will now read Silas Marner. This is EXACTLY the response I was hoping for. Hurrah! If you haven't read my Unheard Voices: Tales From the Margins of Literature maybe give them a whirl this weekend? I promise they're entertaining.

"[Mira] is the kind of short story that lingers in the mind long afterwards. So many felicities too in the diction - exceptionally fine writing ... indubitably, a formidable well of experience and sensibility within [this author]"
I'm in bits 😀😀😀

Just back (last night) from a fab five day holiday with GD2 (aka Jasmine Elkin) in Copenhagen. What larks! Enjoyed myself so much that I really didn't - think much about work. Result? 184 unread emails. No prizes for guessing what I'm doing this morning now that J has left and washing is on line.

Well it's 01 October and just in case your thoughts are tending to early Christmas shopping: It's an ideal gift for anyone interested in reading/writing or just a cheerful upbeat read.

Needy plea: If you bought my This Writing Business from Amazon (and liked it!) could you please stick a review on their site? It looks a bit lonely at present and Amazon reviews really do help to drive sales. A sentence will do. THANK YOU.

Guess who this is, standing outside Shakespeare's Birthplace in 1954? It was a "working" day on the road with my Dad. He never saw a Shakespeare play in his life but clearly thought it should be part of my education. Prescience eh?

As someone who reads 3 a week I am seriously disturbed by the stat I keep seeing that the average adult reads just 3 books a year. Books have the capacity to change lives in a way that I firmly believe nothing else can.

TODAY is my official publication date. Amazon, via any bookshop and now also available on Kindle. One reader told me last week he found it "exhausting" which I think was a compliment. It's certainly chockful of decades of doing.

Very much enjoyed Rachel Joyce's new novel. She manages to do something quite different each time but always compelling human stories and characters you care about.

Ok. That's last night's review done. Now to the really important business of the day.
