When the dust finally settles, we as a nation need to take legacy media to task for not holding Donald Trump to the same standards that they held every other administration to.

Hound them non-stop. Never let them forget.

I wonder how much of the Internet Leftist American mindset boils down to "I can see that my parents had a fairly easy life and didn't do anything impressive to earn it, and was comfortable growing up, and therefore I assume that all work is fake and doesn't accomplish anything worthwhile"

Also, part of why this imbalance happens is for lots of reasons the world tends to know more about the US than the US knows about the world. So we don't tend to push back.

And in some places, people know more about US politics/policies than they do the politics in their backyard!

My point is not: The US is less racist.

It is also not: France is more racist.

My big takeaway is racism in the US is just... transparent. It's easy to see, because of the legacy of slavery and Black people in this country, the racism is loud.

It gets even better.

In French universities, depending on your study, exams are oral.

There's no real paper trail.

A racist prof can just fail you.

What do I mean?

It is very easy to look at the US and point to the reams of data about racial disparities.

I'm a Black woman. I get it.

And then you go to France and hear a French person tell you racism is not a problem there.

How would they know?

France doesn't track racial data.

The thing about being an US born person of immigrant extraction who has also lived in a couple of other countries and traveled to a bunch more is... I can be both very clear eyed in the way the US sucks while also being aware of how other countries use the USA's failings to distract from their own.

Have you ever met a young adult who was, for some reason, an American citizen but clearly had no cultural connection or loyalty to the United States because their mom hopped in a plane to have them here?

Me neither. Literally never.
Ezra Klein even like "well we can agree 'birth tourism' is a problem," and no, I cannot. My group texts are about sports and kids.
still poleaxed by the idea that you could oppose birthright citizenship and still think of yourself as a liberal in any sense of the term.

yeah, i don't get people who think walter was ever in the right. from the first episode he's a prideful asshole who could've just taken the job at gray matter even if it was a "pity job" and raised his kids like a normal dad but he wanted to be a criminal so bad he destroyed multiple lives

walter also would have gained protection from preexisting condition exclusions from Obamacare around the same time the airplane crashed above his house
Breaking bad was about a guy who had many opportunities for his healthcare to be paid for (his former business partners, jrs accidental money laundering go fund me), but he preferred selling meth because ruining other people's lives feels more manly than accepting gifts.

By the way, we’re gonna need to do this fast. Everybody in Silicon Valley with a clearance needs to piss in a cup within 48 hours of the new Democratic administration taking office.
A future D Secretary of Defense - should one ever come - will need to suspend the clearance of every last person affiliated with a16z, 8VC, Founders, & Sequoia and pull clearances from every portfolio company pending comprehensive drug testing, financial review, & CI screening.

It’s going to hurt.

At the end of the show he looks at the camera and tells us exactly what kind of asshole he is. It was already not subtle by then but some people needed it spelled out for them.

If the Court arbitrarily strikes down this key part of the fourteenth amendment, I think Americans lose any moral obligation to show any allegiance to the laws enforced by a fundamentally lawless regime
Birthright citizenship is probably not integral to liberal democracy, but it is integral to *American* liberal democracy. Our vision of what we are as a country, as a nation beyond an ethnicity, requires it.

I know much less about this but this is likely true across the Americas. It is a New World ethos and it should be cherished as such.

It's established as early as the fifth episode that the main reason Walt wants to cook meth is ego, his medical/financial situation was just a convenient excuse.

It’s funny how people want to make Walter White a sympathetic character when he is 100% a sadistic psychopath who just turns off his moral governor once diagnosed with terminal cancer.

This is not what happened. Liberals told you he was a fascist and you didn’t believe them. You thought he was basically normal, and that they were lying about the fascism. Your explanation for that behavior is that they secretly were just mad that he was a disgraceful asshole (like you are).
