So in the Wizard of Oz, Scarecrow's nose is painted darker. I understand this is a reference to scarecrow with painted faces, but is there a specific motif that that was referring to? Why brown, like a hole? what was the 1930s reference that made everyone understand "yes that's a scarecrow"

If you grew up on sleuth stories and wilderness/ horse books - genuinely, cat rescue in your adult years will feel like you trained your whole life to stalk clever little animals but in order to help them.

Rescue hot take: drumming up adoption rates with discounts and lies about capacity is the exact wrong thing to do. Pets are not impulse purchases, @nycacc: encourage more people to rescue help rescuers more. Your capacity was your choice, be accountable.

Why does it take more regulation to groom a cat than to rescue one? Animal rescue needs regulation, but that won't come until it stops exploiting women's labor.

@nycacc has closed for nyc residents but remains open for cops. When a government service is only available if you go through police first, you ensure that only the most privileged people have access to free resources.
That said, if you must abandon a pet, drive it to the richest area you can.
