My kiln is in my unheated but insulated garage. It rarely freezes inside even when it is -20C. I have never had a problem.

So many frustrations with pottery. Are your rims sharp? Maybe fattening them out will help keep the glaze from sliding down. Or dip the rims a second time.

I had to do this last spring. (Un)Happily, the whole house is under construction so I didn't need to tear our a closet as it hadn't been built yet. When we put it back together, it leaked so we gave up and called a plumber.

Owl update: It is gone, and no feathers scattered about suggesting a stray cat or coyote attack, so it hopefully recovered and flew away.
