Pre-ordered from @bookshop.org ages ago and finally arrived. Clearly Katabasis is a PhD book so I really need to finish my chapter so I can read this.

Heading into the 5th year of PhD (not my arm).

Spring is starting to spring! (Although it is also raining a lot ☔️)

All of this to say that I wept like a child in front of members of LRR and I feel very embarrassed because I wanted to say so many things 😭 so thank you @graham.loadingreadyrun.com @kathleen.loadingreadyrun.com @sergeyager.bsky.social @wheeler.bsky.social Ben Ulmer, and @james.loadingreadyrun.com

the meet and greets that were the true moment of shock/awe/overwhelm. We met @gavinverhey.bsky.social, and the members of the Casual Play Design team (all ladies!), and @joshleekwai.bsky.social and Jimmy Wong from Game Knights, and The Professor from @tolariancommunitycollege.com (8/?)

But then, it happened! We saved and squirreled away 💰 and found ourselves entering, as if by magic, the con: (5/?)

Our little project of trying to establish a chronological tradition of Philippine #speculativefiction is finally here! Grateful to everyone who worked on this book (most of whom aren’t on Bluesky and so I cannot tag them). I hope we’re able to contribute to the expanding world of #sff

The scream I scrumpt when I saw the @loadingreadyrun.com announcement for #magiccon Chicago was loud and with manic glee. Friday Nights literally saved my brain from having a full meltdown during the pandemic. It was my comfort show. I would rewatch it endlessly.

Bluesky now has over 10 million users, and I was #745,448!

Very messy first draft of Chapter One is now sailing off into the digital ether towards my adviser. 😭😭😭

It’s been a bit of a week but I was able to hang out and be inspired by folks near and far, and now I just need to finish one last thing on my Summer To-Do list before the semester starts (in two weeks! Argh!)

“…great writing is only great for an occasion and an audience that exists to be changed by it.” I’m currently reading Eric Hayot’s The Elements of Academic Style and I’m just continually amazed by it.

Day 5: Last day of the summer school! We had a lovely last seminar on motherhood in kidlit, and a fancy banquet at the University Club! What a day. What a week. What an experience. 💖

Day 4 was listening to the wonderful plenary of Dr. Yasmine Motawy and her reflections as a Global South kidlit scholar trained in the Global North (sounds familiar?). Plus a visit to the amazing kidlit illustrator Sebastiaan Van Doorne’s home studio!

Day 3 was presentation day! So exhausted after only a couple of hours of sleep, but the response was worth it. Also did the class photo, and had an afternoon session on historical trauma fiction and post-memory. Fun stuff, kidlit.

Day 2 was amazing but my feet are so sore. We visited the Henri Conscience Heritage Library on a guided walking tour, including under the stacks and through the book vault where visitors are normally not allowed to visit.

Also! Just came back from the Association of Asian Studies Conference in Seattle, WA. I attended as part of the editorial team for the Journal of Asian Studies. It was my second time in Seattle and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Still finding little gems of comments like this in the draft while doing a final polish before sending to the committee tomorrow. 😭

Attended a library exhibit on children’s lit and horror, and enjoyed the company of like-minded folks. Rawr.
