The fact that many GPs don't believe people with mental health conditions will not be news to those of us with mental health conditions who have had to deal with these cunts.

Kudos on the BBC for continuing to manufacture consent to take away our rights and healthcare though.

there is no natural golden ratio of abled to disabled ppl, and no upper cap on what percentage of population can be disabled. if you sicken and injure enough ppl, and destroy accessibility of public life in a hostile and unsupported society so a wider and wider range are excluded, the skys the limit

A reminder that Wes Streeting and the Labour government have deliberately chosen two of the worst possible experts to lead the review into overdiagnosis by the way. People already entrenched in that belief who will absolutely manipulate findings to suit their ideological crusade.

Dear Secretary of State, Re: Mental Health Diagnostic Review – Omission of Lords Autism Act Report and Incorrect Framing of Neurodevelopmental Conditions I am writing to express serious concern that your newly announced review of mental health diagnoses, Autism and ADHD https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ce8q26q2r75o.amp makes no reference to the recent House of Lords Autism Act Select Committee Report (Time to Deliver November 2025 https://ukparliament.shorthandstories.com/autism-act-special-inquiry-lords-report/index.html?), despite it being the most comprehensive and authoritative review of autism policy in over a decade. The "Time to Deliver" report highlights systemic discrimination, severe resource shortages, and makes clear that autism is not over-diagnosed. It is therefore extremely troubling that the review announced by you today appears to ignore both its evidence and its recommendations. Your announcement repeatedly groups “mental illness, autism and ADHD” together, suggesting they form a single diagnostic or clinical category. Autism and ADHD are neurodevelopmental conditions, not mental health conditions. When autistic or ADHD people experience mental health difficulties, these are most often the result of discrimination, trauma, exclusion, and a lack of appropriate support—precisely the issues the Lords report identifies. By conflating mental health with neurodevelopmental disability, today's announced review is framed in a way that risks undermining scientific accuracy, statutory obligations under the Autism Act, and the findings of Parliament itself. It also contradicts the Lords Committee’s explicit warnings that misunderstandings of autism within public services—including treating it as a mental health condition—are major drivers of harm, misdiagnosis, and barriers to support. I am further concerned by the appointment of Sir Simon Wessely as vice-chair of this review. His involvement in the widely discredited PACE trial for ME/CFS—which used flawed methods, changed outcome measures mid-study, and contributed to harmful clinical advice & discrimination of people with ME/CFS —raises legitimate worries about whether this review will adequately protect disabled and neurodivergent people from similar errors. I therefore request clarification on the following points: Why was the House of Lords Autism Act Select Committee Report not referenced or incorporated into the framing of this review? Will the Government explicitly confirm that autism and ADHD are neurodevelopmental conditions, not mental health conditions, and ensure the review reflects this? How will the review avoid replicating the methodological and ethical failures seen in the PACE trial which led to severe & lasting harm to people with ME/CFS How will DHSC integrate the Lords Committee’s recommendations—particularly on resources, discrimination, and statutory duties—into autism and ADHD policy going forward? Given the potential for negative consequences, discrimination and severe harm for autistic, ADHD and disabled people, it is essential that this review begins from accurate definitions, appropriate evidence, and respect for the findings of Parliament.
