Summ( )n Futures

We summon the futures, to play with them now.

We’re evolving. Bit by bit, we’ve been working on a pivot in our story about Summ( )n. Our role is still the same, to help teams navigate complexity. Before we expressed that complexity through fractal-inspired language, abstract & pure. We now shift toward more organic, messy and dark complexity.
That’s literally Summ( )n’s business strategy! When we say, “We summon the futures to play with them now,” that’s how we expect to lure clients into these “games”

I feel this stream has been a bit abandoned lately - well, summer break etc, all understandable. A good way to restart is to share the news about our recent presentation at the Amsterdam Trust Summit. We introduced our new Dynamic #Trust Assessment Toolkit, freshly minted and ready to use!

I wrote about our #Futures of Trust(s) session a while ago tinyurl.com/2n2r5cu6 It was all nice and interesting but also quite generic, more like a promise. We run several pilot sessions and can share some results - see the new deck about Trust(s) in Transition tinyurl.com/mwt37su3

Very much in line with our recent piece on 'multiple trusts', different trust regimes

This blog has actually triggered me to look back and restart (and restore) my old #streetphotography project, cea +/- (centralasian.tumblr.com). I run it for years but abandoned it in the last two years (not the picture-taking, but the sharing part)

#ETHDam 25 was super interesting but also hyper-intensive and led to a bit of overload in my head; tried to blog in real-time but failed :( - will come back to this story after a bit. Meanwhile, more of the recent #streetphotography / #streetethnography

Summ( )n is all about ‘futures’. We summon them, sense their signals, and help others make sense of them. We even design them (or design for them).

I’ve been part of this field of futuring for ~ 30 years now, so maybe it's a bit late to admit this but I’ve always felt very uneasy with the F-word.🧵

The original format of my +/- stream on Tumblr was actually always an intermix of 'people pics' (b/w as a rule) and 'technology pics'. The latter could be interpreted ve-e-e-ery broadly, of course :) #streetphotography

Amusingly, and even though Summ( )n is all about 'futuring', Understanding People, understanding now is as important as the future track. And that part is very much informed by the pictures that we take. Guess what? The most active followers of Summ( )n here at BSky are ... #streetphotographers!

Well, that's not #streetphotography (and it's not even my photo) - someone snapped this during a recent gathering at the TU/e campus in Eindhoven, where I was ‘pitching’ our new program on the Futures of Trust(s) bsky.app/profile/summ... The motto? Prepare for tomorrow, succeed today :)

I was actually doing #streetphotography very actively. I mean, I still do it, but I stopped sharing the pictures. I used to run a Tumblr with daily posts for years, alas, not anymore. Maybe it's time to start again, using BSky as a new platform

We've managed to weed out most of the glitches (though not all), and the new website is ready & shining: summon-futures.com. I'm glad to see so much interesting street photography is embedded into its fabric. I think we should make more use of the pictures we take in our 'corporate propaganda'

We’ve been brewing up something new, and it’s finally ready for testing: our new session on the Futures of Trust(s). Omnipresent lack of trust is the biggest (yet least visible) 'black gorilla' in the room. Let's learn how to live with them. Because without trust, the future stays stuck in the past.

Rarely does Robert Merton’s 'Unanticipated Consequences of Purposive Social Action' get invoked to comment on the current carnage (euphemistically called 'DT phenomenon’) - The honeymoon is over for Trump (www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...). Also, I doubt DT is a well-calculating pool player.

Just the light in the heide earlier today, a magical glowing contre-jour on the sunset. They're expecting snow tomorrow.

Imagine waking up in 1925, opening the newspaper, and reading that by 2025 you will be woken by a “radio guided alarm clock" and hear “loudspeaker news and television glimpses of events” during breakfast. What horror! Meet Archibald Low, “mad professor” who made these eerily accurate predictions

We’ll be co-facilitating one of the workshops on the first day: Generating Trust in Digital Food Systems (thingscon.org/generating-t...). Our specific focus will be on tools and methods to evaluate the trustworthiness of such systems in the context of Digital Responsibility Goals (DRGs) framework.
