Why? In a structured population, selection acts locally - where carriers meet non-carriers. When the gene is phage-encoded, it can disperse via virions, reaching gene-free regions more effectively. This increases its effective rate of selection compared to the chromosomal gene.

Deleted it finally.

It’s been 6 months since the words “phage” and “virulence” entered my daily vocabulary. The question is: why do phages carry virulence factors (VFs)? Excited to share some modelling ideas during the poster session of SMEEB 2024 in L’Aquila later this month! #phage #microbiome #VirEvol

Can’t believe it’s been almost a month here. Each day has had a new experience . Every now and then I need to remind myself to stop observing, learning and adapting, and to reflect on how much life has changed. It’s not easy but it has been fun.

Couldn’t be happier to finally be here, and what a beautiful place! Excited to be a part of this community.

The waves seem to be blocked by some rocky formations.

Although for longer time scales, I think these might be left dry or fully submerged due to tides.

Can someone help me find out what these formations are called? Saw them along the coast in Anjuna (Goa, India) last month and couldn’t stop thinking how cool of a model system these pockets of water can be to study metacommunities.

Back when I used the lockdown to try out (almost every tool on) Autodesk SketchBook and simultaneously had a Lepidoptera craze.
