As a recent shingles haver I can say 48 hours of discomfort is worth not dealing with a hideously painful virus and Postherpetic neuralgia months later.
All over my FB people talking about their bad experiences with shingles vax and dissuading each other from getting it! We need to give people real info on how to mitigate the symtoms caused by vaccines because vaccines are always better than meeting a virus unprepared. Yet drs aren't coaching ppl

We firmly believe it is in every party's best interest to support this inquiry and find solutions that aren't just "let's raise interest again, that'll scare people into magically having enough money to pay their loans off."
📢We are calling for a cross-party inquiry into the student loan repayment scheme for overseas-based New Zealanders.

Please sign our petition to the Education and Workforce Committee. There HAS to be a better way. It is in the government’s interest to find one.

💚Aotearoa Greens Global surveyed over 400 New Zealanders in 23 countries - 78% did not think they were making meaningful progress on repaying their student loan and 82% percent were worried or extremely worried about their student loan. Read their stories here:

📈In April 2025, the government raised the interest rate on student loan balances for overseas-based New Zealanders to 4.9%. Originally this was scheduled to rise to 3.9% in line with inflation, but the government arbitrarily added an additional 1% on top.

Lil something I've been working on. The stories told to us wil break your heart and make you FURIOUS.
🧵 In 2011, student loan debt overdue from overseas-based borrowers was $289 million. In 2025 it is $2.193 *billion*. In 2011, the number of overseas-based student loan borrowers with overdue payments was 52 percent. In 2025 it is 71 percent.

The system is not working for anyone and needs reform.

Good on Penn Jillette. Having to come to terms with your entire political identity and philosophy being wrong is not easy and most people could never do it.

Forcing children to work through summer as the planet gets hotter and hotter is actually diabolical. We’re cooked(!)

they do know that other countries also shut down for summer right?

Also, the stuff article about this says “New Zealands statutory leave allowances remain generous by international standards” when in reality, we are 68th in the world for paid leave days (public holidays + paid annual leave). Is middle of the pack generous?

And when I have gone, remember that in weighing
Everything up, from love to a cheaper rent,
You were all the reasons I thought of staying,
And none of the reasons why I went
Which lines of poetry live rent-free in your head?

Taking strong positions on human rights is popular actually 👏

It demonstrates that your principles are real and apply to everyone 👏

Bigots are a tiny but well funded minority 👏

Show them the door to build genuinely broad popular support 👏

If Labour wants to "follow" the politics that endangers our trans whanau for donor funds,

The Greens will lead the politics of protecting our trans whanau against imported fascism.

This is my position. I can’t believe they’re continuing to use this excuse when the “culture war” has already led to legislation being used to directly contravene the human rights of trans people. Lab wanting to follow and not lead *is* putting kids at risk.
Hipkins response to me was basically, "we absolutely support trans people & will reverse it, but we don't want to start a culture war that would put trans kids at risk."

It doesn't make sense. WP has already started the war, TPM & the Greens response didn't start a flare up of hate afaik.

There is no moderate position against rampant bigoted attacks on minorities, about banning their mention in education, barring them from medical treatment and attempting to legislate them out of sports, clubs, even using the fucking toilet. There's no middle ground when they're sowing it with salt.

Oh. Right. Keir Starmerism. You might need Winston, because you lack the backbone and conviction to try and end his way too long career. A poll might mean you lose the psychotic transphobe vote, not that you ever fucking had it. Don't scare the horses, just harm the kids. Yeah great wonderful.

The Labour Party that got gay marriage into legislation, passed the BDMRR and banned conversion therapy should be able to clearly defend their own record and stand up for the ideological vandalism conducted against trans dignity and the LGBTQI community. If it can't, what the fuck are you doing.

If any NZ Labour MPs, or candidates, are seeing this - nah, it's not good enough for your leader to adopt a fence position while our community is under threat even if you've all been given the go to say "what we actually mean is". He's a leader, if he isn't leading, he's losing.
December 5, 2025 at 6:13 AM
This. If it's not true, there's a really easy way to prove it.
Individuals speaking up is wonderful to see, but it’s not as powerful as showing leadership by using a broader platform in support.
Regardless of their reasons for not doing this, imo it *looks* self-serving, and like there’s a base (or a potential coalition partner) they don’t want to antagonise.
