Currently doing some marking. A reminder to everyone involved in archives and collections: digitisation is not preservation. If I digitise a box of records and put the files on a USB stick I haven't preserved a thing. It's all about what you do with the files post-digitisation. #archives #digipres
Something is missing here.... But I can't put my finger on it....
New Jersey and Virginia have chosen well by electing
@mikiesherrill.bsky.social and @spanbergerforva.bsky.social as their next governors!

They are proven leaders who won by focusing on what matters most - how politics and policy can make everyday life better and more affordable.

This issue features the special dossier in collaboration with My Formative Queers: Stories of the music Videos that Made Us Queer, edited by Patrick Kelly and Stuart Richards @stuartrichards.bsky.social : www.sensesofcinema.com/category/my-...
Oh cool! I had not. Will check it out.
Final musing: I'm on parental leave now (baby is taking their time and is yet to arrive!) but doing research projects that bring you joy (and oh boy was there a lot of joy in bringing this dossier about!) is an absolute must.

Thanks to co-editors Patrick Kelly, Stayci Taylor and Cerise Howard.
The dossier is a tribute to the late Darryl Bullock, author of 'David Bowie Made Me Gay,' who spoke at the event. The transcript of his speech is included in the dossier. It's a great read. www.sensesofcinema.com/2025/my-form...

Issue 115 of @sensesofcinema.bsky.social is out and it includes a dossier from the great symposium 'My Formative Queers' at last year's MQFF, where speakers shared an early music video clip that shaped their queerness in some way.

From now on, any time anyone answers any question I have, I'm going to say "Ahh, that would explain the wasps."

Grog's rule of privatisation:

"The day you decide to allow the private sector deliver a public service is also the day you should set the future date for the Royal Commission into abuses in the system."
Adele Ferguson (journalist leading an ABC investigation into child abuse at childcare centres) just told ABC AM that 84% of child abuse occurs in "for profit" (eg privatised) centres.

These centres are putting making money ahead of checking for pedophiles. Who cares about pedos? There's $$ to make
Saw NO OTHER CHOICE at AFF and while there were some absolutely wonderful moments, it was overall very meh. Such a shame!

The electorate voted for a senate that has a majority of ALP and Greens.

Murray Watt and the ALP are choosing instead to write laws that will please the LNP and mining companies.

This is not the outcome a majority of Australians voted for.
I’m getting weary of this. This government is representative of what the people of this place want. The argument is with all of us. Turning it into a constant personalised political snipe belittles the nature of the problem.
Thanks to Murray and his ALP pals, weather reports like this will become increasingly scary and weird
I just finished the audiobook for Darcy Green's After the Siren and it was an absolute delight. It's so refreshing to read an Australian gay story that isn't entirely dour.

So, the Albanese Govt's Education Minister wants to do something about bullying.

Perhaps he could start by ending the legalised bullying of LGBTQ+ students by religious schools.

You know, like they promised in 2022, before walking away from it, and from vulnerable kids. #auspol

a) an English degree does not prevent you from getting and doing a [scare quote] real job [scare quote]
b) there are things, goals, and values in the world other than money
but also c) last year the publishing industry's estimated worth to the UK economy was ELEVEN BILLION QUID.
Calling English a 'rip-off degree' is one of the most blatant exhibitions of personal barbarism I've ever seen. You've demonstrated nothing but the poverty of your own mind.

I continue to think that one of the reasons this country is falling apart is the wholesale abandonment of public virtue as a broadly shared aspiration. Or even something people should be embarrassed about if they don’t have it.
Fuckin yikes, man
Today I happily deleted my academia account. I hadn't logged onto the site in ages so it was overdue anyway.
If you’re on academia dot edu, let me suggest that you strongly consider deleting your account.

An update on that insane lease term where the landlord owns everything you create during the tenancy:
Phwoar what brilliant tv. Another great character study from the creator of Mare of Easttown. 2 episodes in and need more.
