This thread, summarizing Judge Sara Ellis' ruling in Chicago is a good read.

Especially of note her more than once saying the DOJ/ICE version of events is "not credible".
Ellis: "Requiring the government to comply with its obligations under the Constitution, in particular the Fourth Amendment, is simply not a harm."

It was an Issue on which serious people were expected to have opinions.

Over and over again we’ve seen the media refuse to create Issues out of anything related to right-wing radicalization. If they get any mention, they’re in stories about ‘polarization,’ a misstatement of the actual problem.

While providing tech support for my FIL:

FIL: What's that screen?

ME: The terminal. You should never use it.

FIL: Never?

ME: So you know how I'm allowed to watch you open the electrical panel and swap out breakers, but I'm not allowed to ever open up it myself?

FIL: Ah! I understand, thank you.

In 1887, Ivan Aivazovsky gave each of his 150 birthday guests a tiny seascape—painted onto a studio photo of himself, brush in hand before a once-blank canvas. At 10.6 × 7.3 cm, each is almost 1/1000 the size of his masterpiece The Ninth Wave. Read more: publicdomainreview.org/collection/a...

Over the last few days, I’ve learned that this guy who said vile things about me and those whom I love was coded and sold as a young Mr. Rogers to a very receptive audience. Has helped me understand the general response.

Journalists, however, are really blowing the moment by going along with it.
reposting with alt text because this feels incredibly significant. the right-wing disinfo machine means a lot of the people grieving Charlie Kirk never heard any of the things he said that would have tarnished his brand as Guy Who Just Wants to Have Dialogue Across the Aisle

“banning pornography” is bad on its own but it is imperative that everyone understand that these people consider the very existence of queer people to be pornographic

they consider the most chaste depiction of a queer relationship, or an openly trans person, to be porn and they want it banned
You don’t have to like, approve of, or engage with porn and nsfw work to see how right wing extremists are using fear and stigma around smut to ban queer people from public life, define “good” sex as only between married people for procreation, and otherwise further force white supremacy on everyone

On the starvation in Gaza, an Israeli minister says 1) “there is no nation that feeds its enemies," and 2) Israel is “driving out the population that educated its people on the ideas of 'Mein Kampf.'"

Seriously? If you're accusing others of following Mein Kampf ... maybe don't parrot Mein Kampf.

The point is if you see someone trying to find some sort of comfort in awful situations, yelling at them more about the doom is probably not going to help them. Let people enjoy things. Let people take breaks. Let people have a moment of peace.
