Day 7 #artAdventCalendar my #linocut horseshoe crab (Tachypeus gigas) in grey, blue-bronze and dark brown on 8” x 8” cream-coloured Japanese paper with bark inclusions. 🧪🐡 They get their name from their horseshoe like shape but they are not crabs; they are chelicerates, more closely related to 🧵

My dad abhors any negative comments about immigrants. Asked him recently why he’s so strong on it: ‘Because we’re always happy to take the rich and clever ones. Which means it’s not about disliking immigrants. It’s about disliking the poor and vulnerable. And that’s a bad human instinct.’
This is so disgusting.

70% of the additional spending from removing the two-child limit will go to families who are in work. This is targeting support for low-income working households who are being priced out of a decent standard of living despite doing everything asked of them.

Japan's "Mundane Halloween" costume contest is back!

Each year website DailyPortalZ holds a contest where people dress up as something super duper ordinary.

Here's a thread of some of my favorites from the 2025 contest!

Black Sabbath began with a broken body – Tony Iommi's industrial accident – it is both fitting and inspirational they end in the same way.

Dear Ronnie,

Just a quick note to say, remember not to wear those terrible cheap joggers pulled up to your armpits, with your shirt and tie.

Best wishes

These small embryo nests are created by queens that survived winter.

I used the facilities during a trip up Seattle's Space Needle. Every time I see it (and there are a lot of Frasier repeats), I like to mention that I've had a wee up that. If I'd been to SPACE I would be simply unbearable
Going to space for 10 minutes because I want to piss up there. Not really interested in the cosmos otherwise

This is a really nicely written article about a man who has changed the way I travel. If you haven't heard of him, you're in luck! Now you have
Given a lovely write-up by Seb Emina in Fantastic Man magazine, www.fantasticman.com/articles/the.... Featuring a photo on the Ft William sleeper by photographer Tom Ordoyno, who'd backed into the en suite to take it. Rest assured I am fully clothed* under those bedclothes. (*including socks)

Just realised I heard (or, at least, noticed) my first chiffchaff on the same date this year. Huh
Heard my first chiffchaff of the year yesterday. That's all, a small good thing in a tricky week.

Last year, the eggs sadly didn't hatch and the parent eagles dejectedly abandoned the nest for a while. They're back now, and two chicks are growing. Give yourself a moment

P.S. If anyone knows of a village with one of these in the South West of the UK, please let me know. I plan to deliver to as many as physically possible over the next fortnight...
I love the reuse of rural British phone boxes as tiny libraries so I’ve decided that every time I see one, I’m going to top it up with a few of my books.

Psst…wanna buy a tomb??

For the past few years a group of us have been working to bring one of #Orkney’s major heritage sites, the Neolithic Tomb of the Eagles, into community ownership.

Now we need your help to make the site safe and accessible. Please share widely and donate if you can! 🏺🧪
Tomb of the Eagles
The Tomb of the Eagles is one of Orkney's best-loved Neolithic sites. We aim to re-open and restore it as a community hub and tourist locale
