Like the Jewish holiday of Tisha B’Av, #Juneteenth marks remembrance of oppression committed against humanity. But unlike Tisha B’Av, it is embraced by Black Americans as a celebration of liberation. Yet it’s future is uncertain while the corrupt plantation master lives in the White House.

“Until the lions have their own historians, the history of the hunt will always glorify the hunter.” This maxim from the novelist Chinua Achebe is a reminder of the necessity of #Blackhistory. Especially when Hegseth is erasing it from the military in favor of a Christian nationalist version.

This American republic is a marketplace of ideas. Many of us thought that the notion of #diversity had secured permanent space on Democracy’s grocery shelf, much like our favorite cereal. It is clear that we must continually clamor to keep that value available for consumption.
