Perverts - Ethel Cain

8.6/10

With a fresh take on a less-is-more approach, I was surprised to hear exactly how minimalist this project was compared to the more pop oriented offerings previously (1/?)

Double Infinity - Big Thief

8.5/10

A minimalistic approach compared to their previous works, this Big Thief project tackles infinity in small doses (1/?)

It’s a little belated, but here is my November B-side in no particular order!

What have you been listening to?? Any favorites here?? #musicsky

Stardust - Danny Brown

7.3/10

This is such a mixed bag, with some of the more corny lines from Danny Brown in his catalog, paired with moments that his flow doesn't even match the beat, I was inclined to feel discouraged about the project (1/?)

Baby - Dijon

7.4/10

Did I really care to hear Dijon seductively singing about the conception of a child from the perspective of telling that same child the story in detail? No, not really (1/2)

Mixtape - David Liebe Hart

7.9/10

As hard as some of these songs can be to listen to if you aren't accustomed to the "off the dome" style of singing, I think there are both a lot of hilarious last second forced rhymes on here and a lot of strangely sobering realizations (1/?)

Here’s the A-side of November!

It’s a Beautiful Place - Water From Your Eyes

7.5/10

It's really just fine music. There is a singular track that I'm particularly into, but the rest happens and is pretty good! (1/?)

The Low End Theory - A Tribe Called Quest

9.7/10

There's a lot to love here and I'm only going to touch on a few main points lest I make my micro-review too macro (1/?)
November 5, 2025 at 11:59 PM
Helplessness Blues - Fleet Foxes

9.2/10

There's a really cohesive sound world to this record that goes beyond the stereotypical tight harmonies and lush acoustic orchestration that Fleet Foxes usually bring to the table (1/?)
November 5, 2025 at 1:16 AM
DON’T TAP THE GLASS - Tyler, The Creator

8.3/10

Tyler takes a bigger swing here than his previous few releases with a guerrilla release on a random Friday. I admire a lot of the more zany production choices (1/?)

Here is why the second half of October looked like for me

殴り合い陀仏 - 人畜乱弾

8.7/10

While brutal and crazed when it comes to the pacing and force behind the music, the vocal harmonies/parts are surprisingly complex and engaging. It's a tight punk EP that ends in an anthemic closer about how they are stinky women and I think that's kinda great (1/1)

Mommy’s Little Monster - Social Distortion

8.0/10

One of *the* punk bands that come up when someone asks you for a short list of them from this era, it took me a while to appreciate their more classic rock approach to guitar parts in this group compared to some of their contemporaries (1/?)
October 15, 2025 at 3:32 PM
Get Up Sequences Part Two - The Go! Team

9.4/10

There's such a playful style to the "Sesame Street-core" beats and instrumentals about this project (1/?)
October 14, 2025 at 3:53 AM
The Life of a Showgirl - Taylor Swift

3.6/10

This project generally reads to me as Taylor saying “hello fellow pop stars" and trying to adopt the ethos of popular modern contemporaries like Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan to no avail (1/?)
October 14, 2025 at 3:40 AM
Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party - Hayley Williams

6.8/10

The peaks are high on this one, but there's really only one to write home about per act of the record (1/?)
October 12, 2025 at 4:57 PM
private music - Deftones

7.4/10

It's a good enough record from a band that could very well have phoned one in at this stage in their career. I don't think there's any re-inventing of what they do or how they sound here (1/?)

September B-side in no particular order (that black spot is supposed to be “Ugly” by Screaming Females)

人の玉ボーイ - Moonriders, Keiiichi Suzuki

9.2/10

Jazz rock, funk, country, proto-disco, rock n' roll, and classic rock sounds all funnel into making this record work (1/2)
September 20, 2025 at 2:18 PM
Can’t believe it’s already halfway through September! Here’s my A-side 5x5 in no particular order!

Forever Famicom - Mega Ran & K-Murdoc

8.7/10

It's a cozy listen with chiptune arcade style beats and lyrics about gaming. It's corny and on the nose with itself, but it's earnestness in that is what sells it (1/2)
September 13, 2025 at 1:33 AM
Crack Up - Fleet Foxes

8.5/10

Fresh as the scene on the album cover with gorgeous vocal harmonies and clean recordings of grounded folk orchestration. I'm particularly a fan of the multi-part songs that flow from one idea into the next relatively seamlessly (1/2)
