Beer critic with a preference to dogs over people.
This continuous grey overcast weather, often raining, sometimes windy, does nothing to cheer the soul, we need some winter sun to encourage both me and the boy it’s worth getting up in the morning!

Today is the day the crows fly backwards! Off all the weather types, wind is the most destructive.

This so called ‘Peace’ prize awarded to Trump by FIFA leaves me feeling quite nauseous. Peace has to be justifiable and not at any cost. It has been created for Trump, and is complete brown nosing from Infantino and FIFA.

Disappointing visit to the local tap. Far too many overpriced poor hazy pales, can we get back to some crisp, clean beers of merit. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy hazy pales but they have to better than tonight’s offering!

With all the references to AI nowadays, my mind still conjures up the image of a man in a rubber apron and carrying a ‘straw’ of semen advancing on the rear end of a cow. My agricultural heritage I guess. One could say the Milk Marketing Board was ahead of its time as the first used AI in 1940!

Just done some seasonal maintenance on Mr Shifty (he has shifty eyes). Re-seal the bulb holder and a new plug! This is his 38th Christmas and he still has the same broom, lazy bugger. I’ve worn out countless ones in that time which is why he looks in better nick than me!

I remember this tree from my childhood, it seems neither of us have aged well!

Loads to do in the garden, but I’ve been driven inside by… Snow! Unheard of in Mid-Sussex.

My Grandfather fought in the trenches in ww1, he was hit in the chest by shrapnel and pronounced dead. During a lull in shelling, the mortuary stretcher team carried him up the steep sides feet first, at the top he complained bitterly at the rough treatment!

That’s it then, just seen the Coke Christmas advert!!

Not a big fan of Halloween but that cat! Its tail is over gutter height and it frightened the crap out of the dog as we walked past.

Batch one of the Christmas sausage rolls (they won’t make it)

Not something I could drink gallons of, but nice enough! Actually my days of drinking gallon(s) of beer are long in the past.

It’s a foggy night!

21000 new homes given go ahead in our area and we have less than six weeks drinking water supply in our reservoirs? Previous developments involved schools, doctors surgeries and other infrastructure none of which materialised. It’s a shitstorm!

Ouse Booze is back, 25 years ago Lewes flooded and Harvey’s Brewery was evacuated as water washed barrels down the Ouse and out to sea. The half days brews were combined and left to ferment above the flood. It was later sold to help flood relief. The anniversary re-brew is available in cans now.

It’s fungi time!

Tudno Pils from Wild Horse Brewing Co. West Coast Pilsner, is that a thing? Apparently it is, and it’s not bad either.

A short walk around our local reservoir confirmed my suspicions, the rain has barely moistened the banks. House building in the SE goes at pace whilst the infrastructure for it is still in the 1960’s.

It’s all Oktoberfest in the Hop Sun, not complaining, but can anyone tell me why it starts in September or why Halloween has appeared weeks ago in the shops and Santa’s grotto is being advertised?
September 26, 2025 at 7:32 AM
Oktoberfest!

The demise of national beer festivals may be on the cards but the local festivals seem to be thriving and maybe this is where CAMRA should be concentrating. I’ve not attended a GBBF for some years purely due to the costs of travel and accommodation whilst there are at least four decent local ones

Bluebell beer festival just opened, sunshine, beer and steam!
