"To-day I think
Only with scents,– scents dead leaves yield,
And bracken, and wild carrot's seed,
And the square mustard field;

Odours that rise
When the spade wounds the root of tree,
Rose, currant, raspberry, or goutweed,
Rhubarb or celery"
-Edward Thomas from "Digging" (Last Poems, 1918)

Daughter baking up a storm. Blueberry yoghurt cake. Used fresh berries & followed the recipe which said to gently spoon through, but berries still sunk.
Tips?? Put some batter in the bottom of the tin first, then portion berries through remainder?

Sour, crunchy, vinegary Polish dill pickles in Poland or FROM Poland (many brands claim to be Polskie ogórki but are from anywhere but Poland & are not the traditional vinegar, garlic, dill, horseradish brine), & with pretty much anything.

Guys, apparently salting & rinsing eggplant/aubergine before cooking is a hangover from the 50s, 60s & 70s.

👀 ⏳👵

Am I still going to do it? Yes.

For our rivergarden eggplants I don´t need to salt and they are not all "modern", I guess. Bought eggplants I salt, too. In historical sefardic recipes is the process of salting included, I hope to remember correctly 🤔

I've read on the internet we don't "need" to salt modern species of eggplant but I still absolutely do, do you?

"...We had gone back & forth all night on the ferry;
And you ate an apple, & I ate a pear,
From a dozen of each we had bought somewhere;
And the sky went wan, & the wind came cold,
And the sun rose dripping, a bucketful of gold."

"no flower ever opened
so staunch a white leaf,
no flower ever parted silver
from such rare silver;

O white pear,
your flower-tufts,
thick on the branch,
bring summer and ripe fruits
in their purple hearts."
