There's water on the move in #AshlwncuttingLNR and while it's not conducive to walkers with cameras that aren't waterproof it does suit birds looking for places to bathe. See ALTxt

Armistice day work party at Newbold Quarry working on the steep slopes of gun hill. A former searchlight and anti aircraft battery during WW2. Now potential habitat for declining Grizzled Skipper butterflies and imptoving every year for other species

Massive concrete plinths that supported the steelwork of former radio masts at Daventry's Borough Hill were providing perches for these 2 related Birds. Robin and Stonechat. Both looking for insects...

On a walk round afterwards we noted that previously cut areas were regrowing and wonder if this will favour the more vigourous species like the Nettles . On returning home I heard 2 frogs calling in the garden pond. #FalseSpring.

A lovely mornngfor a walk in the woods. Badby Wood nr.Daventry has permissive access thanks to Fawsley Estate who are harvesting Softwoods greatly benefitting the woodland . Flora is poised to emerge and next year looks promising :-).

That moment when a walk on your local wildlife site gets a bit more exciting! Treecreeper doing what they do among the Hawthorns at #AshlawncuttingLNR this morning. Hadn't seen one for ages and was getting concerned,happier now :-).

#FernFriday visit to Pytchley Rd bridge over #AshlawncuttingLNR. Black Spleenwort,Maidenhair Spleenwort,Wall Rue and Hartstongue al thriving in the mortar on the North facing side...

Sidings grasslands now cut and raked coppice nearly finished (1st 2 pics) and former lairage partly cut (Pics 3&4). More to be done over the next few sessions!

In the Northern section of #AshlawncuttingLNR again for today's work party. Sidings scrapes on the left of the path in these 1st 2 pics.and former lairage up the bank. Scrub removal/coppicing to give the grasslands a bit more light. A reset .

On the Leicestershire/Northamptonshire border lies Stanford Reservoir. Permits issued for recording purposes allow time with wildlife like these Red Crested Pochard drakes in this bay...

Hats off to the Wildlife Trust and volunteers who have increased the population of these plants to the 100's at the site I was guided round in Summer. Treacherous floating mire!! Fascinating habitat

... a bit further along the path is a grassy shelf with Bee and CS orchids, There's scope for expansion and a start was made today beside the steps. Opening it up will also help to lessen Anti Social Behaviour on this urban site

No birds of note @warwickshirewt.bsky.social Brandon Marsh this afternoon. The "usual suspects" added character (Tufted ducks) and a bit of colour (Teal and Shoveler) Someone said it was too windy for birds but isn't that like saying it's too wet for fish?.
