We officially welcomed our Glendale Kids Director, Cassie Davenport, into our Glendale Family today! Over the last year, our kids ministry has exploded in growth where she coordinates 20-30 kids each Sunday morning! We are so thankful for you, Cassie!

Buckle up. I think some of you need a reminder: it’s not trans women or trans men that are harming people in the restrooms they use that align with their gender identity - both inside and out. Actual predators will find a way to harm people of all ages if they went to in whatever means they can. /1

There are really hard things happening all around us, and I know we want to comfort those who are hurting, but please resist the urge to respond to tragedy with trite platitudes like... “This is all a part of God’s plan.” “Nothing happens outside of God’s will.” “Everything is orchestrated by God for his glory.” These aren’t helpful and they also aren’t true. God is not omnicausal. I believe God is omnipotent, but claiming that God causes all human actions, including evil, is a perversion of sovereignty and incompatible with God’s core characteristic of love. From the opening pages of Genesis we see God allowing humans to make our own choices and go our own way. In doing so, we have often given into the influence of evil and chosen to hurt ourselves, others, and God’s creation. A good deity cannot cause evil. If a deity causes evil, then it is not good. To put it simply: God is either omnibenevolent or omnicausal, but God cannot be both. This doesn’t mean God isn’t working in the brokenness and it doesn’t mean God isn’t redeeming the pain. God doesn’t orchestrate every event, but he does do two things: 1. Enters into the suffering with us through Jesus. 2. Defeats evil with sacrificial love and ultimately repairs the brokenness caused by it. In difficult times like these, let’s place our hope in those truths.

Pro tip: “God is in control” isn’t comforting or relieving to people who have/expect to be harmed by an event/situation. It lacks empathy and is dismissive of their pain/anguish. That is the same as saying “everything happens for a reason” to someone when their child dies of cancer. WWJD? Not that.

The USA has never been a Christian Nation. We are generations of indigenous peoples, immigrants, and those who were enslaved by force w/ diverse cultures, faiths. It is [past] time for churches to ACT, not just pray: to stand up for justice for the “least of these,” to redeem the Christian Church.
