It it unbelievably easy to see what happened here. There are only a handful of plausible scenarios and none of them cast Schumer in a good light.

Came across a review of this novel while spelunking 1939-1940 newspapers. Oddly timed wish fulfillment then and struck me the same sort of way now... but someday!

I think a lot of the anger this morning stems from a feeling that we did our part, but they did not do theirs. This is an oversimplification, but my dudes, no wonder people are like, “OK, let’s try the democratic socialist, then.”

I think tonight shows why “moderate to win elections” is a real risk
the big divide in the Dem caucus, as many have noted, has been less moderate vs progressive than fight versus don’t fight
but it’s not a coincidence that basically everyone in the “don’t fight” camp is a moderate

Senate Democrats had the power to do one thing: This shutdown. And this is what they did with it. Maybe this is some brilliant political calculus, in which case I'll happily eat my words. But right now, it feels like the beginning of the end of the party in its current form--and by its own hand.

When I was young, it was reflexive for smug nihilists to say there was no difference between the parties. I thought it a cop-out then and I still do... but the Democrats make it impossible to maintain any faith that it isn't true. There's a fascist party and the kayfabe opposition, a Potemkin party.
They couldn't cave before the elections last week, because then Dem voters would be angry with them and might not turn out. They're counting on folks forgetting about the surrender before primary season kicks in.

Democrats have to stop bailing out Republicans from facing the consequences of their own policies. And yeah, that means they have to stop sparing voters from experiencing what GOP government truly means.
Every time Dems step in, it only emboldens the GOP & they make it even worse the next time.

1. A CR that will prevent the GOP from facing the wrath of Americans for a shutdown over the holidays
2. A coupon for one (1) meaningless ACA vote that will fail
3. An end to the illegal RIF/SNAP moves that are already before the courts
Those all seem like wins for the GOP.

Wait, are the GOP proposing a HSA to replace the ACA that you can use to purchase healthcare and not health insurance? That’s the dumbest possible solution what the hell.
