Huh--it's like Project 2025 is actually a thing. Who would thunk that Trump and his minions were lying about that? So out of character!

She is a hero, & we ALL need to hear this message and to see how to speak truth to power. It will almost certainly have no effect on its target audience, who has a blackened mass of dead worms where his heart should be, and it sickens me we have to plead for decency.

Yes, we should point to the outrage of pardoning rioters who did grievous harm to police officers. But let's please not lose sight of the fact that even if no police officers had been injured, Trump just pardoned more than a thousand people seeking to overturn a fair democratic election.

And that's just for starters. . .
In the space of half a day, the new administration has trashed the Constitution, subverted the independence of the DOJ, granted a broad amnesty to traitors, abandoned the global community on climate and public health, and launched a wide-ranging attack on minority rights.

Our democratic republic is in grave danger. We need to figure out how to preserve it and to protect the most vulnerable among this. My hate for this woeful failure of a human being is just one smidgen less than my love for my country--I hate him in part BECAUSE I love my country.

Sen. Reed is doing a fine job laying out why it should be IMPOSSIBLE for Pete Hegseth to be confirmed as SecDef. If only I were more confident that the truth of his awful record on so many fronts were sufficient to lead to his rejection by the Senate.

ABC, NBC & CBS dedicated about 16 minutes of airtime last night to the California wildfires without once mentioning climate change.

Since the news failed do it's job, here's a short summary of the role of climate change and wildfire risk:

Wildfire climate connection
Climate change, including increased heat, extended drought, and a thirsty atmosphere, has been a key driver in increasing the risk and extent of wildfires in the western United States during the last ...

I am NOT apologizing to the rest of the world for this grasping, corrupt, xenophobic, misogynistic, racist, and otherwise-bigoted lunatic. ALONG WITH SO MANY OF YOU, I WORKED MY BUTT OFF TO STOP HIM FROM GETTING BACK IN POWER. But those who voted for him should. www.nytimes.com/live/2025/01...

If you voted for Trump, you not only betrayed this brave veteran and police officer, you betrayed the American ideals he put his life on the line for. No policy difference, no philosophical position could justify this undermining of our most fundamental beliefs or processes. tinyurl.com/muxm6y58
As Trump rewrites history, victims of the Jan. 6 riot say they feel 'betrayed'
A police officer defended the Capitol from violent rioters on Jan. 6. With President-elect Donald Trump poised to pardon the rioters, he now asks, "what did I risk my life for?"

If you haven't read Elspeth Barker's _O Caledonia_ (1991), I can't recommend it highly enough. It's a brilliant, brief novel that combines the Gothic and bildungsroman in a particularly compelling way--luminous natural history writing combined with razor sharp social observation. #Bookthreads

I just got into a very unedifying 'debate' on Threads with a male TERF from the UK. When I asked him why he was so hostile to transwomen and not transmen, this was the response. Embarrassing and damaging incoherence and characteristic of the exchange on the whole.

Utter, imperialist lunacy being normalized by a network watched by millions. Try not coddling the wannabe dictator so enthusiastically @cnn.com.
CNN is hopelessly broken.

1. This "expansion" would require military invasions of several allies in violation of international law.
2. It would violate several treaties.
3. The Louisiana Purchase was the sale of land by a colonial power (France). These are sovereign nations.
