What about the DSO <> aggregators? This discussion focused on how to communicate Dx grid constraints.

Some options are better than others.

We recommend operating envelopes, as demonstrated in Australia. An alternative is a dispatch agent model, though it provides less flexibility to operators.

So what data needs to be exchanged between DSO and ISO/RTO?

Lots! Registration, telemetry, market bids, constraints.

Typically this is where we hear pushback that it's "too much data". That's...not true. Other industries securely exchange 10x more data on these time scales.

We focused on 2 parties with whom the DSO will exchange data:
- The ISO / RTO (bucketing both the market and transmission operators here; in reality they can be two separate parties)
- The Aggregators (called "DERAs" in MISO)

Lots gets communicated, but a key = constraints for safe Dx operations

Already lots of great insights and 🌶️ takes from #DERVOS.

Excited to see how much this industry is growing and evolving — plus always nice to reconnect with the inspiring people who work in it.

Not sure if EVs are coming?

Standing room only for rural EV adoption and Ford’s F-150 Lightning at @NRECANews’s TechAdvantage says otherwise.

Lots of concerns though about how to upgrade transformers and reconductor lines given ?? rates of adoption and long supply chains.

I love #cleanenergy industry discussions but my highlight of the #BERCenergysummit has to be @leahstokes and Tasha Reddy (of CCL)’s discussion of the Green New Deal and carbon pricing.

Thanks so much for joining @UCBERC today!

Loved hearing Xavier Helgesen from @ZOLAElectric share his story for #WattItTakes. Thanks @JoinPowerhouse for a great event!

Fri night in Chicago: 🍺 + 😁 the summer weather

Fri night in the Bay: 🍺 + 😁 the summer weather + cleantech startup pitch competition

Loving it here thus far.

Took a short break from #energytwitter to go out and explore this beautiful world of ours. Re-energized for the fight against climate change. #Rainier #FindYourPark #Summited

Instead, why not have resources offer Y MW and X hours (min duration of 1 hour) and have the market procure enough power and energy capacity to serve peak load (+ reserve) for 24 hours, while doing so from a larger pool of resources?
November 16, 2024 at 12:42 PM
Then we take a simplified graphic of twelve resources serving the 24-hour requirement, each providing Y MW for 24 hours. (Where solar, wind, standalone storage or demand response may struggle to participate as it may be harder to provide consistent MW for 24 hours)
November 16, 2024 at 12:34 PM
Say we take a system where the capacity procurement for a given year is ~160 MW (peak load + reserve):

Love this @axios chart showing how an increase in U.S. oil production doesn’t necessarily mean savings at the gas station. #globalmarket #visuallearner
