I remember a couple of times I have had the equivalent class in both streams. Was always a mistake to assume that if the lesson went well with the first group then it would automatically go well with the second group. Time of day, previous lesson, it started to rain could all impact the flow.

Lots of talk about Oracy as a means to develop confidence with mathematical techniques - valid approach.

Not much mention of using maths (calculations, charts etc) as part of a presentation to justify a course of action outside of the maths classroom.

Agree that there is great stuff from MEI/AMSP/Casio but look within your own team first. At Key Stage 5 no-one is an expert at the full curriculum. Who is the stats whizz, the mechanics guru, the pure genius? who uses tech efficiently in their lessons. Look beyond maths dept (Computing, Physics etc)

Not the place to get into a discussion of which is the better qualification - both are nice enrichment alongside GCSE Maths. These 2 qualifications do not have dedicated slots in the JCQ timetable so each exam board chooses the most appropriate time based on teacher feedback.
FSMQ single paper.

I always found it an interesting challenge for students to try and predict the year related question that almost always appears.

Here is the 2025 Junior Maths Challenge question.
What do you think will be in the 2026 paper?

or 1 x (987 + 3 + 4 + 6) / (2 x 5) but still using brackets 🥲

Thought I had a nice solution

2x(3x5+7+8+1+9+4+6)=100
but brackets not allowed 🥲
