Played some more Resi Evil 4 remake on PSVR2, pity they got rid of the Aussie accent for the merchant

The world itself is superficial, and its ambition outpaces execution.

The ending turns into a corridor shooter and is abrupt. Cinematics and voice acting are decent enough.

Looks great, plays rough.

Beneath its slick dystopian world is a dated open-world shooter that feels stuck in the past.

Texture pop-in and performance stutters are constant annoyances, and missions send you back and forth to stretch things out.

Doing a screen mod on a Gameboy DMG as the solder screen trick to fix missing lines didn't work. I get a bit of colour with this too

I'm not much of a bullet hell shooter fan, I like more traditional shmups.

The toothpaste laser on this was pretty cool. Nice to play in Tate mode too. I picked this up on sale via digital but I have a physical on Xbox still in cellophane

The looping sections often felt like filler, and the heavier dose of Finnish lore compared to the original came across as a bit padded.

The Control references with Jesse & the FBC were cool.

Overall, I’m glad I played it, but also glad it’s over.

The whole Warlin Door Show sequence is bonkers in the best possible way.

I liked the dual-lead setup, but the constant flipping between characters got a bit irritating, and the Echoes and Mind Palace segments broke up the pace too much. Some Echoes I had to Google what to do.

The Northlight engine is absolutely stunning, easily one of the best-looking games I’ve played.

The way Remedy blends live-action video over the 3D engine is clever and genuinely cool, giving it that surreal, dream-like edge.

Watched the Fear Street trilogy on Netflix this week. Great soundtrack. The first one was reminiscent of Scream and the second one of the original Friday 13th. The third was the weakest until it flips into 1994 part 2 and finished it all off.

I really liked the side scrolling Shadow Complex. The 2.5D world, satisfying combat, and tons of secrets still hold up today, and the foam gun is still one of the best Metroidvania power-ups.

The end
October 25, 2025 at 1:09 PM
The final double shoot-out was brutal but satisfying. Despite its flaws, I’m glad I stuck with it.

Snatcher is flawed, fascinating, and absolutely worth experiencing once.

What doesn’t hold up is the dated, often sexist portrayal of women. Stereotypes and objectification that really jar against the otherwise smart writing.

Still, the voice acting is surprisingly strong, expressive, moody, and totally immersive for its time. You can tell they poured care into the audio presentation.

The investigation and interrogation menus show their age. What once felt like methodical detective work now plays like a slow crawl through text boxes.

You can see shades of The Terminator in the design of the Snatchers, relentless humanoid killers blending in with society. That concept must have been mind-blowing in the ’90s, though it feels a bit overfamiliar now.
