Well that’s something I didn’t expect to experience
again soon. To stand in a huge Russian crowd and feel not discomfort but warmth — for a sold-out Russian-only #QEH performance of fab comedy with 86-year-old “foreign agent” star Lia Akhedzhakova, standing ovations. Non-Putin Russias do exist…

… and the other way round also. It’s funny that only when you have finished your book and start talking about it do you make new discoveries about what drove it all along
