40something artist by day working on her first novel set in and around London in the days leading up to and following D-Day, 1944. Gigantic nerd about history, music, and other things. Mashed potato enthusiast. Alabama. She/her.
Anyone have any experience researching or have knowledge of how mortgages worked in 1940s London? I'm researching house cost right now and trying to be very realistic about where I can place my family 😅

I'm back! Been quiet for a while but I promise I'm still alive. Fought the imposter syndrome by opening my revised outline yesterday to work on it a bit, refine it, make it better. Progress!

I bought a desktop microphone so I can dictate to Google Docs and hopefully help save my injured hand some pain. Voice Typing can't do everything, but holy hell--is dictating the solution to all my ADD writing woes? I should have done this years ago. #amrevising #writesky #writingcommunity

This is good advice. I take a week, minimum. I build that time into my schedule and warn the editor beforehand that I will be giving only short emergency replies during that time. MANAGE YOUR AUTHOR FEELS PRIVATELY. (Not online. Please gods, NOT online.)

Also I know I went silent for a while but first I was ill (med stepdown is not fun) and then my desktop was in pieces for a parts upgrade but I'm going to try and dig in and be more active again. Running a personal account + author account simultaneously is difficult for me 😆

feel like I've hit a brick wall in my search for thematic images/stock photos set during WW2 to use on social media for the book I'm working on; I've searched everywhere and they simply don't exist outside Arcangel which costs a fortune. Help??

fellow writers--having a hell of a time sourcing royalty-free thematic WW2 stock photos (people and objects alike) that don't cost an arm and a leg. Either I don't know how to word my search queries, or I'm looking in the wrong places. Any advice?

Was doing research yesterday and ended up on The British Newspaper Archive's website which would have been a boon...but unfortunately it's subscriber only. Which I am not opposed to at all, I'm just weighing cost/benefit. Sigh.

It's a high pain day today for my hand (probably shouldn't even be typing this), so I won't be writing or researching, but I'm looking for books to put on my TBR. Any recs or promos for a bored person? Regency Era onwards preferred but I'm open to others!
