Of course “winning elections” isn’t enough to send fascism packing. Not when its proponents cherry picked enabling institutions (hint, Supreme Court) and when the election winners decided to follow norms and institutional prerogatives and not fall back on authoritarian tactics themselves.

It was never sent packing though, was it? It was coddled or ignored, while its propaganda channels continued full bore.
