Good vibes at yesterday’s gig. I love playing chordless trio. ✨

I love Joel’s contrafacts and again TRIOOOOO! I really dug his last release, the Bright Side, and Lumination keeps the light on.

If I ever do a dissertation on sax improv, I could happily choose Joel Frahm as the subject

Walter Smith III has been heavy rotation since Twio and then I looked back and found Casually Introducing 🤯

He still kills every time and it’s just so damn astounding.

I didn’t expect two great release in back to back years 😭

Also the mf title 😂

MICHAEL MAYO.
His take on standards is beyond. I was in my car nodding to “Four” like I was listening to Kendrick. Like same respect but different vibe, still so sick.

This record is confirmation of the endless potential and simultaneous classic nature of this music.

I’ve been transcribing Chris Potter off of this new Carl Allen record.

The three, including McBride are a fun group to listen too.

Trio is slowly becoming my favorite listening instrumentation. Thankful for this addition.

Coast Contra makes me happy.

The way the pay homage to hip hop culture and its emcees is so layered. Lyrical references, quotes, mimicry.

The way they exert their individual voices in each track and then have their group sound still?

Like I haven’t felt this way about a rap group in a WHILE

This Grant Stewart album has been leaving me dumbfounded. His tenor sound is SOOO much like Dexter Gordon circa “Our Man in Paris.”

The TONE! The vibrato placement! The melodic choices. And then there’s this loooong double time line so well placed.

Such a great listen.
