I love how ultimately today's results means that one year after the committee made it more difficult for a G5 team to get in, there will likely be TWO G5 teams in the playoff.

It’s true the system has been neglected. But what system? Hiring? Yes, but we’re shedding employees. Infrastructure? Yes, but we’re not investing in it. Radar? Yes, but no investment. Future weather models? Yes, but again no investment. I’ve never seen operations devolve faster than the last 6 mos.
Noem: "Frankly, the National Weather Service under President Trump has been working to put in a new system bc it has been neglected for years. It's an ancient system that needed to be upgraded, so President Trump recognized that right away and got to work... but that installation is not complete"

😡 don't look up...
The National Climate Assessment, and all special reports and past assessments, are now offline. Federal climate science is being systematically erased.

It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me that at the same time we have strong fire wx conditions in the area, firework stands are beginning to pop up. Happened last year, and again now in arguably worse conditions. 🤷‍♂️

Me and my eight coworkers would beg to differ.
Lutnick to Sen. Van Hollen’s questioning: “the NWS is fully, fully staffed. There are no openings at the NHC and we are fully ready for hurricane season.”

Today had me a bit worried earlier this week. RH 15-20% in the Sierra coupled with an inflow of tropical moisture from the SE. 100 hr fuels aren't quite as cured as the grasses in the area, but 2 days of sub 20% RH can do a lot. Hoping no fires for today as we'll have stronger gusts tomorrow.

The statement from NOAA:

Through strategic transformation, staff reallocation, and updated service standards, NWS is ensuring resilience and continuity of mission-critical functions. Reports suggesting otherwise are false and disrespectful.

Ugh. Gutted about that result. Up 14 with 8 minutes left and couldn't close it out.

The National Weather Service is THE ONLY source of weather data in the US. Every weather app, local broadcaster, and weather forecast map is based on NWS data from NOAA. This is a ridiculously stupid own goal for the US that will disrupt all kinds of social and economic activity, and endanger lives.
BREAKING: The mass firing of upwards of 1,800 workers at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, including top climate scientists and weather forecasters, has begun.

The firings reportedly include workers at the National Weather Service.

I'm not really surprised by the decision to upgrade to a marginal risk. We'll have to see if convection and LL SRH max out around the same time. Last I saw, SRH was strongest before MUCAPE but definitely something to keep an eye on tomorrow 👀

This should be 25th amendment level conduct. The president ordered water to be released from a random dam in California nowhere near the wildfires and then claimed it would help. That’s literally Mad King behavior.
