This goldfinch enjoying lavender seeds has yellow spots on its red face - wondering if it's a young one still changing in to adult plumage or an unusual variant #birds @rspb.bsky.social

A Clouded Yellow #butterfly giving me the eye after I'd chased it for a while waiting for it to settle. Quite a few of them about today - very mild and sunny on the South Downs. @bcsussex.bsky.social

"Lest we forget" - a pyrotechnic poppy wreath is discharged near Lewes War Memorial by South Street Bonfire Society on November 5th 2025, under the full moon. Remembrance is always an important part of the annual #LewesBonfire celebrations.

Lots of nasturtiums around now - the leaves make great dolmades and the flowers are edible too #VeggieGarden #Gardening

Clouds obscured the lunar eclipse, but it was worth climbing the hill for the South Downs sunset, looking east over Lewes towards Mount Caburn, Windover Hill and Firle Beacon.

Grieving for our little Peggy. She was always there, keeping tabs on us, organising us, talking with her eyes, ears, tail and body. Always ready to protect us from threats such as rats, cats, fireworks, thunderstorms, deliveries or the recycling collectors. Such a bright spark; we miss her yaps

These are some of the ponies that are currently grazing Landport Bottom (chalk grassland above Lewes, Sussex). There's a fair amount of agrimony in the sward, and its seeds are notoriously sticky - hard little cones with barbs that catch in animal hair and are really hard to remove.

As this woody nightshade was growing close to Pagham Harbour on the RSPB reserve there, I'm going to claim it as #ByTheSea #WildflowerHour

Zoë & I took a short walk walk along the banks of Pagham Harbour in Sussex yesterday. Here's a linnet, a small white and a red admiral butterfly. Also spotted a little grebe, lapwings, redshanks and distant egrets, and heard the cry of the curlew. #birds @rspb.bsky.social

Sadly I can't listen on BBC Sounds as I'm in Sussex, which apparently isn't part of the UK anymore.
