Writer, teacher, maker of comics, director, infrequent actor. Historian, scholar, and speaker on Illinois history and comics. Great adorer of dogs.

Friendship is truth and I believe in you all the way.
These events will be the first in the St. Louis area where I’ll have copies of Relapse and On the House IV (I contributed to both books). I’ll also have other comics, as will Isaac and John. And we may have some unpublished work to check out. So make sure you visit us at least once that weekend.

Not to be outdone, QuadCon St. Charles will occur on Sunday, April 13 at the Steel Shop Event Center-entry is mere $5. I’ll have a table with @johnkingillustrations from 10-4pm (Isaac will be nearby at his own table for that day). QuadCon is always a lot of fun and I’m excited to return.

The convention runs 1-8pm and is free. I will share a table with @ilh_studios. And if you drop by RA 208 from 2-3pm, I will be delivering my presentation “History of Comic Books/Strips in the Land of Lincoln.” The panel is also free (and you *might* score a free comic simply for attending).

And this is my reminder that I’ll be delivering my presentation on Illinois history and comics at Glen Carbon Library on Thurs., Jan. 23 at 6:30pm. The event is free-you’ll learn about local/regional comics history, how it relates to world history/culture, and more.

Thanks to Slackers in Glen Carbon and Heroic Adventures in Edwardsville, two of the comic shops supporting me and my presentation. Thanks to everyone who has posted or promoted the information. Please support small businesses, and these two especially (if you are in the St. Louis Metro East area).

Born decades apart, Thompson and Gould nonetheless share many similarities: they both made Illinois their homes (Gould resided in Woodstock), created comics there, and contributed to the comics culture in the Land of Lincoln. Thanks to all who have shaped comics and Illinois for the better.

Today is also the birthday of the late Chester Gould. The creator of Dick Tracy, Gould proferred a model for superheroes preceding him. His Rogues Gallery is too populous to mention, but one member deserves attention: The Blank. Without this faceless baddie, the world would never have had Watchmen.
