Fortunate dad & husband. Instructor of rhetoric and writing. Runner of middle distances.
I think it's import to realize there is no way to use policy or justification as a defense, because that's not the basis of the attacks. The right wants gendered outrage for its audience, and the university wants to avoid outrage, so instructors are sacrificed without process or consideration.

The boomers taught the girls feminism but not the boys and here we are and now shitty people say the answer is to roll back feminism. I hate it so much.

It sure would be nice if we could stop teaching boys that competition is the only form of relationship one can have with other people.

I'll wait patiently for the "University" of Austin to begin teaching all the material that is *actually* being forbidden in Texas.

The underlying principle of such gerrymandering is the assertion that if a party wins an election, they should have the right to ensure they win every election forever.

The root cause here is an asymmetric media environment.

The right has a media ecosystem that picks up such incidents, and through repetition transforms them into "news" stories that eventually run in mainstream outlets.

Until the left develops something like this, nothing will change.

CALIFORNIA will be covering 100% of lost federal tax credits for enrollees earning up to 150% FPL.

That's around 290,000 current enrollees, or ~14% of their total exchange enrollees.

They're also covering a portion of the lost subsidies for those earning 150 - 165% FPL (around ~100K I think)

Between diffusion models and LLMs, tech has inflated a trillion dollar bubble around automating activities that have immense social and cultural capital—writing, art, photography—but little actual capital. It’s harmful to education, culture, and society with minimal overall benefit

This is "the Bible says it; I believe it; that settles it" in essay form. Painful.
