The role of racism in the development of fascism is well known. Less widely known, but as important (I'd argue) is the role of sexism. Hegemonic masculinity, with its inherent misogyny and homophobia, has been central to the rise of every fascist movement.

Absolutely. Hegemonic masculinity, with its inherent misogyny and homophobia, as well as it's fundamentally hierarchical structure, has been as central to the rise of every fascist movement as has racism and religious prejudice. The fascists themselves even saw their movement as gendered!

Here's a bit from a great article that very much agrees with you:
“Men may well be culturally violent because of a need to demonstrate their identity, which in reality may be weak. Constantly proving their masculinity, which may be doubtful, obliges them to give public demonstrations that can involve rash actions, abuses of power, humiliation and subjection of anybody he feels is a threat. In the end, such a man is better prepared for death than for marriage and the care of children, somebody whose affections have been amputated” (Fernández-Álvarez, 2014, p. 50).

It's great to be in NYC, a city with monuments to those who fought for the United States instead of against it.

Reminds me of this line from MLK's "Letter from a Birmingham Jail":
Sometimes a law is just on its face and unjust in its application. For instance, I have been arrested on a charge of parading without a permit. Now, there is nothing wrong in having an ordinance which requires a permit for a parade. But such an ordinance becomes unjust when it is used to maintain segregation and to deny citizens the First-Amendment privilege of peaceful assembly and protest.

For anyone who is cursed with white grout in their tile floor--white grout that rapidly turns gray--I have finally found a solution! Three parts baking soda to one part hydrogen peroxide. Paint on grout and leave for 15 minutes. Then scrub and rinse. Cheap, non-toxic, and incredibly effective!
